CHARLOTTE, N.C.--A man was robbed Saturday night while loading groceries into his car. Police say he gave up his wallet but was shot anyway. The robbery happened outside a southwest Mecklenburg grocery store, and local shoppers say robberies are becoming too common.
Not everyone can finish all their errands during the day so some stores-- like the Harris Teeter on Highway 160 and York Road --stay open 24 hours.
Though many shoppers consider 9 p.m. on a Saturday a safe time to shop, it was not the case for Eric Jackson, a 30-year-old man from South Carolina. Police say Jackson was loading bags into his trunk when a man approached him, carrying a gun and demanding money. Jackson handed over his wallet, and then was shot in the stomach.
Grant Lambert says he shops at the store often and says the area is becoming a common place for robbery and he wants it to stop. "One of these days, somebody's going to shoot one of these guys back and it will send a message," he said.
Bill Locyer is new to the area and says he is surprised to hear about what happened. "It's kind of quiet, that's the reason why we moved down here; to get away from the violence," he said. Locyer said he sometimes shops alone at night. When he is alone, he looks for anyone who might seem suspicious and parks in a well lit area. "I usually try to get as close as I can to keep from being out walking a lot," he said.
"I am probably a little more aware of my surroundings than I am during the day," said shopper Bill Hoag.
In light of this and similar incidents, police again urge all residents to be alert at all times. They say crime could happen anytime or anywhere.
Police say Jackson is expected to recover. The robber got away with his wallet and about $100. Police say the getaway car was a black Chevrolet --possibly a Corsica or Lumina.
"One of these days, somebody's going to shoot one of these guys back and it will send a message," he said.
And why not by you?????????? Carry a gun and shoot back people! Time to put the criminals on the run........

It wouldn't surprise me to see folks start to have armed backups who watch from a distance prepared to pop any would be robbers.

And remember, according to the police one is never supposed to resist in a robbery. One is supposed to comply with the robber's demands. CCW laws are not necessary because if a law-abinding person hands over his wallet nobody will get hurt.

Back in 1993 my Cousin was working his way thru college. He was an assistant manager at a pawn shop. He opened the store one moring and 4 youths barged in and robbed the place. They took money, jewelery, guns, and my cousins life. The slit his throat. He did everything like they said to do. He cooperated, they still killed him. This was gleemed from the four bastards when they were caught. They killed him because they wanted no witnesses. Then thes idiots go the next day and sell the guns to other pawn shops in the same town. After that all shops had the serial numbers and descriptions of what was taken. They were rounded up the next day.
Because they were minors they got life in prison. I have vowed to do everything in my power to see they rot in jail forever.

The car didn't shoot anybody - wouldn't a description of the robber be a bit more useful? Sheesh.
