Thanks for posting this. The replies are only too predictable and show that far too many republicans are conservative only when it comes to staring...with glazed eyes...into their neighbor's bedroom and demanding that someone do something about them.
If you're going to defend protecting the taxpayer against rape by the government, it has to apply to every non-constitutional expenditure....not just the ones you don't use.

My sentiments exactly. Libraries are just another socialist government handout/redistribution scheme. I pay $150 a year in library-related property taxes, primarily to educate other people and their children. I'd much rather pay my own way. Any takers on setting up a government system to provide me with DSL service? I didn't think so.
And besides, they aren't just building libraries for books anymore, they're building mausoleums to house every type of audio/visual media. It is getting out of hand.
This is one of the few times I admire the UK over the US. There are far more book sales there per capita than here (I've been told by friends who traverse the Atlantic) because their libraries are so deficient. Kind of makes me wonder what they do with all that tax money.

Who says being for the dumbing-down of of the public is a conservative value?

some of you liberatarian nuts need a brain check.
No real conservatives of the past would have actually supported abolishing libraries.

What is the connection between local/state taxes for libraries and the U.S. Constitution? Wouldn't this be a decision for the states to make?
