Hometown Parade today

The Good, the Bad and the STUPID.

Today was out annual hometown parade. It was a festive affair...our 4 year old son munched on pink cotton candy as we sat on the curb and watched the parade go by.
My heart swelled with pride and the Marines, Coast Guard and Army Reserves groups marched by. I clapped loudly and let out a few heart-felt WOOHOO's. I gave a round of applause for the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts....a whoop for the community kitchen that feeds the poor...three cheers for the Salavtion Army. My lips, however, fell silent when I was confronted with the HUGE pink banner from the group CODE PINK. (http://www.codepink4peace.org/) There they were with their huge, empty smiles and their giant and rather frightening larger-than-life-size "sculpture" of Gandhi.
Here is an example of what the CODE PINK sisterhood stands for:
" We call on women around the world to rise up and oppose the war in Iraq. We call on mothers, grandmothers, sisters, and daughters, on workers, students, teachers, healers, artists, writers, singers, poets and every ordinary outraged woman willing to be outrageous for peace. Women have been the guardians of life—not because we are better or purer or more innately nurturing than men, but because the men have busied themselves making war. Because of our responsibility to the next generation, because of our own love for our families and communities and this country that we are a part of, we understand the love of a mother in Iraq for her children and the driving desire of that child for life” —Starhawk
Where was this sisterhood for peace when Saddam was filling the mass graves? Where were they when he was gassing the Kurds? Why is it that they were SILENT when THESE things were happening?
Their mouths only open when we, as a nation, are trying to stop atrocities like this. Why is that? Groups like this make me ill. I'm just happy I was there to cheer on the brave men and women who insure that folks like them have the freedom to be stupid.

Where is your hometown? What was the reaction of the rest of the crowd, did they boo or cheer, or were they silent?

"their giant and rather frightening larger-than-life-size "sculpture" of Gandhi."

Code Pink, as you know, is no more for Peace than Ghandi was for gluttony....the good news is that while those Pinkos are mental captives trying to enslave others, we can spread the Bush Doctrine elsewhere--and fight the NEA and Marx here by just getting the TRUTH out.

I love parades too. Thanks for sharing this.

We live in the Bay Area of California. Luckily, there was a family right next to us...the husband was a former Marine. They were cheering right along with us.
CODE PINK got a huge round of applause, as did our dimwitted representative, Lynn Woolsey. :^P
We really need to get out of this state. Living here gets really depressing sometimes.

Why? Because like ALL liberal groups they are cowards. They will ONLY take up causes when they know they can do it without reprocussions. These "brave" people will only stand up against LEGAL entities ... they know if they go against people like Saddam or others they will cease to exist. Literally.

And I might add to your post that the major goal for groups like this is to discredit America.

Betcha meant to address this to kimchi, but I answered, anyway.

I'm also in the Bay Area, and believe me, I understand.

I've thought about leaving, but even being a "red" living in a definite "blue" area, I love it here.

To mis-paraphrase Tuco Ramirez of the Good, the Bad, & The Ugly..."When you gotta shout...Shout...Don't talk."

The selective outrage reminds me of a friend of mine. He went on and on about how awful Abu Ghraib was. But he has a poster of Che Guevera on his wall. Che Guevera was in charge of Cuba's prisons and had people tortured, but I guess that was okay.

Doesn't matter who it was originally addressed to, your addition is correct!  Somehow, I missed that one.
