Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal Makes Controversial Remarks About 9/11

Actress and New York native Maggie Gyllenhaall makes some controversial remarks at Friday night's TriBeCa Film Festival.

Gyllenhaal was at the premiere of her movie "The Great New Wonderful" which opened at the festival Friday night. The film is set in the city about a year after September 11, 2001 and looks at New Yorkers' feelings after the attacks.

But while describing the movie, the Lower East Side native said the United States should share some of the blame for what happened that day.

"I think what's good about the movie is that it deals with 9/11 in such a subtle, open, open way that I think it allows it to be more complicated than just 'Oh, look at these poor New Yorkers and how hard it was for them,' because I think America has done reprehensible things and is responsible in some way and so I think the delicacy with which it's dealt with allows that to sort of creep in," said Gyllenhaal.

The TriBeCa Film Festival was started after the terror attacks to bring tourists and money back to downtown Manhattan.

May you be in the next building taken down by terrorists, and may you feel the stark fear of being trapped in a doomed building with no way out, knowing at any minute you may be consumed by fire or have 10 to 20 stories of concrete and steel come crashing down upon you.

Ugly, no-talent, leftist airhead skank.

What do expect from a chick who starred in a movie as a woman who "likes it rough".

She should be challenged as to exactly what reprehensible things the US has done.

Actually, the former "realist" stance of the US in regard to certain Arab dictatorships over the last 30 years or so was regrettable at least, if not reprehensible. Part of the left's myopia toward Bush is that they refuse to acknowledge that he is dismantling that approach. Our unsavory "allies" in the region (Saudi Arabia and Egypt, to name two) can no longer count on the US to look the other way while they deny their citizens' basic freedoms. You would think the left would applaud this development, but they're so blinded by Bush-hate they haven't noticed it, or assume it's a sham.

Where would someone get this idea from? Wonder where she went to school. She certainly hasn't been around long enough to speak from experience. Maybe her teacher was the Iron Shiek!! (from earlier post)

Who is this woman, and why should her opinion matter to me?

You beat me to it. Honestly, I have found lately that although I still enjoy a good movie, I don't enjoy one that has in its cast any of the names that have exposed themselves as lefty loons over the past few years.

I'd rather just read a book than watch anything with the likes of Baldwin, Clooney, Glover, Sarandon, Robbins, Goldberg, or Sean Penn.

What it makes me think of is when I was in school, when someone acted like a total dork, and I and others would rather not hang around them. Their behavior was offensive.

The really smart entertainers are the ones like Morgan Freeman, who keep their mouths shut (at least I never heard him say anything political).

Maggie Gyllenhaal? What the heck is a Maggie Gyllenhaal, and what possible credentials could she have to make anything she says important?

ANYONE CAN LOOK THAT WAY. She is not naturally beautiful. Really, she isn't. She just isn't good looking.

She starred in the movie The Secretary which was about Sadomasochism.

"Its inspired by real life incidents, examples of a sort of McCarthyism that has existed since the attacks, says the insider. Its about people who've been punished for saying and thinking things in a country where there's supposed to be freedom of speech and thought.

The irony always seems to escape these types. If there really was a crackdown on free speech, they wouldn't be able to make their stupid movies or write their left-wing blogs, books, articles, etc.

Baldwin, Clooney, Glover, Sarandon, Robbins, Goldberg, or Sean Penn.

Now, my guys in the barracks always enjoyed their roles in "Team America!"

Who? Am I supposed to know who the heck this person is? Am I supposed to care what she thinks?

Didn't think so.

Ms. Gyllenhaal has now joined the Famous Actors Guild (if you've seen Team America you know what I mean).

Remarks like that could cost her roles in big blockbuster movies, that's to be sure.

The really smart entertainers are the ones like Morgan Freeman,

I saw an interview with him awhile ago. He was asked about his stance on the 2000 elections (must've been around that time) and he stated that people paid to see him act, not talk about politics.

Wise man and a good actor.

Exactly. I've never known a collection of high-school and college dropouts whose opinions mattered as much as the asshats in Hollywood.

However, I find it hard to blame her. She's a very young woman and, from what I've read in the past, she was raised by far left people who undoubtably indocrintated her to feel this way.

Puh FREAKING leese. Eeeeeeeeveryone's someone's victim, eh? What a fatalistic view of life. Report back when you really do find your out from behind those lines.
