Twenty masked special and plain clothes police raided an evening seminar at a church in Izhevsk, the capital of the Udmurtia autonomous republic in Russia.

According to the Forum 18 News Service, police forced about 70 people outside the Work of Faith church April 14, calling them "sectarians" and "prostitutes," while they searched the building.

Nearly 50 church members were held for five hours at the police station and fingerprinted. Udmurtia's interior ministry claimed the Pentecostals had "distorted" details of the raid.

It never changes.

Never Forget: They're still our enemies, even if they pretend to be our friends.

Russia has also been discriminating against Catholics.

"The questions were rather: 'Why do you go to this church and not an Orthodox church?'",

This quote from the article kinda explains the situation.

Russia is no more an ally of the United States or Christianity then China is.

"Twenty masked special and plain clothes police raided an evening seminar at a church in Izhevsk..."

Why were they masked? Inquiring minds want to know. Could it be that they fear they will be on the losing side of this battle and are seeking to protect themselves from future inquiry and retribution? Sounds a lot like the KKK to me.

"Why were they masked?"

They may figure that they can hide their identity from the "God of all flesh" (who is not Orthodox).

Jhn 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

While this action is wrong period, the comments here show your so called Christian hearts to be just as black and sinful but a lot more self-righteous. Christians in deed.

The Communists did a lot of damage the traditional life of Russia. Americans with an anti-Russian bent may see this as Russia being repressive but the Russians feel they need to rebuild and protect their traditions that the Communists tried to eradicate. Germany has similar though less harsh restrictions on political groups and religions as a means to protect itself from the damage done by the Nazis (so they feel). So who are we to judge?

The probable real cause of the raid is buried at the end of the article. The church was in conflict with the local drug dealers. I'd bet a few rubles that the police were paid off by the druggies to make the church uncomfortable...

"...your so called Christian hearts to be just as black and sinful but a lot more self-righteous. Christians indeed."

What blackness do you see jb6? What self-righteousness? Can you be specific at such a judgemental rebuke? What I read here were comments of distrust of an once-Godless/now-stillso government authority attacking people for their faith and worship.

Again I ask, what was sinful here? according to you?

"The questions were rather: 'Why do you go to this church and not an Orthodox church?'",

I would not make much of this statement. Policemen when agitated are prone to make nasty remarks.

The man was murdered near the church building and few people with shady past were living on church premises. What is wrong with the search warrant? What is wrong with enforcing the law?

Do you think that enforcing the rule of law in Russia means hostility to USA?

The person to whom jb6 was replying had made the gratuitous remark that "God is not Orthodox", knowing that jb6 is Orthodox. The implication was also left that Orthodox Christians like jb6 would approve of raids on non-Orthodox churches just because they weren't Orthodox.

Sound's pretty black and self-righteous to me, unless one has evidence that jb6 actually feels that way. I personally would have been inclined to ignore the remark, but the "God is not Orthodox" certainly was offensive, even though it is a true statement -- since God is not a member of our or any other church -- God is who we Orthodox worship.

Regarding this specific raid, we would need to know more details before knowing if this had anything at all to do with government-sponsored religious persecution, and if it was done in accordance with Russian law or not.
