The girl's teacher videotaped her class that day as a self-improvement exercise. An attorney calls the arrest "absurd" and "excessive."

I agree. This may be the first time an adult actually responded to her with quiet but firm discipline. I shudder to think what her mother is like.
If the child continues with this kind of behaviour, she's not going to have much of a future.
The video is "Exhibit A" is what liberals have wrought in our society. Ya can't touch a kid in any manner without being called a racist or inviting some type of disciplinary action, or litigation.
The only reason I feel any pity on that child is not because she is being handcuffed, but because it is obvious to this parent that she is screaming because she just doesn't want to be punished and this child is CLEARLY in this state as a result of bad parenting. Absolutely no way any typical child would act out in that extreme manner, and apparently not the first time either!
Can you tell us when was the last time that happened?
My husband worked with children like this when he was a teacher's aide. Many children would have fits like these and would end up restrained or put into a seperate time out room.
Here is the problem - a parent that has higher priorities than raising her child.
I can't wait to see this lovely girl's parents and lawyer explaining their lawsuit on TV.
As usual, it's everybody's fault--- except the lousy parents.
...from Heinlein's Starship Troopers:
"Suppose you merely scolded your puppy, never punished him, let him go on making messes in the house ... and occasionally locked him up in an outbuilding but soon let him back into the house with a warning not to do it again. Then one day you notice that he is now a grown dog and still not housebroken -- whereupon you whip out a gun and shoot him dead. Comment, please?"
"Why ... that's the craziest way to raise a dog I ever heard of!"
"I agree. Or a child. Whose fault would it be?"
I like the sneak up behind them, cover their mouth and beat them with a paddle approach a lot better.
Excellent.
If my kid ever acts like that in school I fully expect to see him hog tied on the floor when I arrive there to pick him up.
"Little bunny foo-foo".... :)
This little animal better get used to cuffs because she will be wearing them for most of her life hopefully. I dont want to imagine what she will grow up to be, but whatever it is let it stay in in juvenile hall and prison!
"prolly".
I've noticed this spelling more and more in a stock market chatroom I visit during the week days. I think it's a good chance to get rid of the absurd spellings we have:
rough = ruff
thorough = thoro
etc, etc
Nothing. Lock her in a small room where she can't hurt herself or anyone else and let her have her tantrum.
The kid was in charge until the police arrived.
Yeah ... my bad.
It's odd that many will allow their offspring inflict so much pain and suffering on not only themselves, but the general populace.
In my case it wasn't the teacher smacking me upside the head, it was what my folks would have in store for me when they found out.
When I was in school, They just used the big, wooden paddle with holes in it - with my parents permission and blessing. Boy, times have changed.
They will have to catch me by surprise, and without the remote.
Not a chance of the latter. ;)
This kid should have been stopped long ago and also should not be in a regular class room setting. She is obviously emotionally disturbed and needs a very restrictive setting. The Principal or teacher in the video just keeps telling her to stop over and over- very ineffective-child is challenging her. She shouldhave ben restrained at the onset and held until she calmed down. She needs to be placed in a treatment center for ED kids and I'd deal wtih the mom telling her she'd be there an hour later!! This is her kid and she should be there immediately! Not when she decides to show. Very sad it takes handcuffs to restrain a 5 yr old?!
