Celebs Ignore Death, Poverty on MTV Enviro Series

A new MTV series features Hollywood celebrities praising the developing world's primitive lifestyles as earth-friendly -- despite those poor nations' high infant mortality rates and short life expectancies.

The eco-tourism show, called "Trippin'," premiered on March 28 and was heavily promoted in the runup to Earth Day. The show encourages environmental awareness and lauds traditional tribal lifestyles, which lack running water, electricity and other basic infrastructure.

The MTV series features actress Cameron Diaz and a rotating crew of "her close, personal friends [who] think globally and act globally." They tour developing nations, incuding Nepal, Bhutan, Tanzania, Honduras and visit remote villages in Chile.

Actress Drew Barrymore, who reportedly earns $15 million a film, told MTV viewers in one episode that after spending time in a primitive, electricity-free Chilean village, "I aspire to be like them more."

Barrymore, apparently enthralled by the lack of a modern sanitary facilities, gleefully bragged, "I took a poo in the woods hunched over like an animal. It was awesome."

The 32-year-old Diaz, who earns a reported $20-million a movie, boasted that the cow-dung slathered walls of a Nepalese village hut were "beautiful" and "inspiring," and she called the primitive practice of "pounding mud" with sticks to construct a building foundation "the coolest thing."

Diaz also criticized the lifestyles of many Americans after visiting an indigenous village in Chile. "It's kinda gotten out of hand how much convenience we think we need," she said.

Despite the celebrities' praise for the primitive life, "Trippin'" shows them flying on multiple airplanes and chartering at least two helicopters and one boat to reach remote locations over the course of the first four episodes.

"It's kinda gotten out of hand how much convenience we think we need," Diaz said.

Really? What makes you think that?

Style icon Cameron Diaz owns a cute pink toaster that imprints Hello Kitty’s face on her toast.

Would that be the same Cameron Diaz who makes an assistant shave her armpits for her?

Like these celebs are giving up their limousines, chartered jets, custom tour buses, huge mansions, lavish parties etc, to live a simple earth friendly life? Hypocrisy is the homage vice gives to virtue.

These Holly-weirdo's sicken me beyond description.

Yes, lets get back to basics. Turn off the T.V. and quit going to the movies, renting video's etc.
Put these people out of business so they can get back to basics, or rather, get back to reality.
I wish they would all move to a 3rd world country so they can poo in the woods to their hearts content, and pound mud and poo to make their own house. And never, ever be allowed back in this country.

We can expect a replay in her next flick.

Are you saying that Tom Green will be her costar again?

How about they give up Hollyweird for good and move to one of these "utopian" societies? We'd be better off without them, but I bet they wouldn't survive long amongst the native population. I wonder what they do with dumb American blondes in Bhutan?

I see two whole new Hollywood industries opening up. The Dung Wall Decorators and the Pounded Mud Builders. Really clever entepen-- oh business mavens will combine the two. Having dung which has been pounded by actual TRIBESPEOPLE put on celebr- oh Hollywood Airhead- walls.
Do you suppose Cameron knows what dung is?

I think her statement is meant for the rest of us. After all she is ultra important and should have her toaster.

The rest of us on the other hand should be starving and living in grass huts because it is the natural way.

For full effect, Michael Moore. :)

I do think we should get more back to basics. But, not at the expense of our health. I write this on my computer with my dsl connection after taking a shower, loading the dishwasher, and putting a load of laundry in my washer.

Aren't those some of the basics?
;-)

They forget that their source of wealth comes from us and our free time and expendable wealth.

If we are all living in mud huts and toiling in the fields, we wouldn't have the money nor the time to see their movies.

They'd be out of a job.

I have an image of the new Malibu, after the fires and rain, full of mud huts. Sculpted. Planted with tall grass and natural ponds.

Wait. Mud, once dried can wash away. Scratch that idea. Wait. Maybe they'd like the freshness of it. Very nouveau. Wait. Maybe $45 mm homes crafted to look like mud huts could line the coast there.........

These people are nuts. Someone needs to get the nets.
