A long term investment that is already paying HUGE dividends.
Like?
Wars that won't be fought (or even long-term allies that wouldn't have been (ie ExRuski nations and MidEast Reformers against rising china/communism2) We aren't giving the ME 'our' freedom, we are giving them simply FREEDOM. Its made by them, held by them, and maintained by them, and they won't give it up without a fight. To appeal to the antaganists I would say that goes for China or Islamic Theorcracies as well as it does for the 'military industrial complex' in the "west"

$300 billion, huh??
If our Iraqi-Afghanistan military actions have successfully broken up the MidEast terror networks that were formed pre-9/11 (during the Clinton years) -- then that $300 billion will look cheap.
Especially when compared to the lunacy of the leftist Democrat/Clintonoids, who thru the 1990s were letting Saddam Hussein, Mohmar Khadaffi and Osama bin Ladin continue their clandestine chemical, biological, and nuclear productions.
And for all the Iraq war detractors, Saddam might not have been putting up Osama bin Ladin at the local Baghdad Hilton, but he was certainly contributing to the growth of the worldwide Muslim terror by allowing AlQaeda underlings and wanna-bes to have safe shelter in the Iraq-Kurdish north and the Sunni triangle.
By taking out Iraq state-sponsored terrorists, and by flipping Khadafi, and by keeping our AWACs flying herd over Syria and Iran, President Bush has set back the Muslim-world domination crowd by at least 40 years.
Looking to the future, the West must now simply maintain the will and resources to keep the crazy Muslims from creating a terror network capable of launching globalized attacks.

But, shouldn't that 4,000 be spread over time from 2001-2005?

Even though the IRS hasn't demanded any $4,000 of me (yet...probably gonna happen this year), I'd rather fork over that $4,000 for the war than for drugs for senior citizens or political pork (which is far too prevalent).

Considering the government takes the money anyway, I think it was well spent on the war.
For the same period, what was the cost of welfare for all the lazy, drunken, pot smoking, glue sniffing, frauds?

$730 billion per year? I would love to see the figures that back that up.
======
So would I :-) -- wrong fact sheet. Figures I have now located show the total cost to be somewhere between 190 and 250 billion (1970 dollars). I am going to check into it more -- interesting topic. Much more realistic data...

Freeing Afghani and Iraqi children from tyranny is costing too much.
Saddam only killed his own people. It's none of our business.

I'm not sure...
How much has the President pledged to preserve American "freedom" in the name of stopping the illegal invasion from Mexico?
That right -- NADA. ZERO. ZILCH.

Well, that was an unintentional discussion I sparked. Sorry guys, I was just trying to be pithy about the fact that I actually do think the money was well spent. Next time I will elaborate more.

The radical Islamic states think nothing of spending billions in earned crude oil profits to export their jihad which murders Americans, Israelis and countless others around the globe.
The solution is stop rouge jihadic enemy states such as Iran and yes, Saudi Arabia too. The majority of 9-11 killers were Saudi.
What is the monetary source for all these Islamic terrorist weapons?
