A shot put? No way. High School record is like 81 feet.

"Carter won the men's shot put with a heave of 24.77 meters/81 feet 3.50 inches, which added more than 10 feet to the previous national prep record. No athlete since has come within five feet of Carter's mark, which still stands as the best ever."
USOC source

A Javelin, yes--a teammate of mine tossed it 215 in high school.

You are probably thinking of a softball throw.

I threw an 8 lb shot in 9th grade and the farthest I got it was 18 feet.
