Chafee says he's glad for more time to review Bolton

Senator Lincoln Chafee says he's pleased that the vote on the U-N ambassador has been delayed.

Chafee had been prepared to support John Bolton, President Bush's provocative choice.

But later, Chafee said the dynamic had changed and he was glad for the additional time to review the nominee.

The decision to delay the vote closed a rancorous session of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in which Republicans first sought to push Bolton through the committee and Democrats resisted.

Bolton is a harsh critic of the U-N's bureaucracy and thus was a provocative choice to be the administration's representative to the world body.

These things aren't even accusations. If Bill Clinton yelled, screamed and pounded the crap out of his staff, then what is wrong with what Bolton is accused of doing? Why isn't our side saying "So what if it is true that he behaved like Bill Clinton - So What? At least he didn't rape her".

Sadly, the answer is, apparently, that our guys are gutless cowards.

That is likely correct - the Dems targeted Chafee as the easy kill on this committee - he's just lucky Voinovich took the heat. No doubt Lincoln's mail box filled up pretty quickly when it looked like the situation would change. These are trying days - just wait until that first Supreme COurt justice shows up...

"This is EXACTLY why I drop Republican fund-raiser request letters right in the wastebasket without responding to them. This is EXACTLY why I changed my registration to Libertarian.

Bet I beat you to it.

Changed mine in 75, when that "gutless" weenie, Ford, refused to order air support for (South) Vietnamese (as he was authorized and HAD an obligation to do) when the North (surprise, surprise) invaded the South in force and the South was being overrun.

That led to the imprisonment and murder of hundreds of thousands of those, (some of which I considered friends) whose only "crime" was putting their faith and trust in "us."

One of the biggest black mark I can remember in my lifetime.

As for fund raising, I suggested to someone earlier today, that what we should all do when we get solicited, is send a blank envelope with a little note explaining why we would no longer contribute UNTIL such time as "they" get their act together. Any thoughts?

Go to Hell Chafee.

I hope you are cherishing every single moment your butt warns that chair, because you can kiss it goodbye in '06.

That's an excellent idea. Do we drop a party because they do one or two things that we don't agree with, as a respondent suggested? Certainly not. What does irk me to no end, however, is the fact that the Republicans have been in the majority for 10 years now, and they still act as though the Democrats run the show.

Republican leadership (there's an oxymoron) can't get judges confirmed, they won't do anything about illegal immigration, and they still think they can "get along" with leftist Democrats like Ted Kennedy and Nancy Pelosi. And don't get me started on their unwillingness as a party to do anything about illegal immigration, although I do have to tell you, I admire Tom Tancredo to no end for what he's trying to do about it.

Enough already! Grow a spine or get out.
