My wife's boss is catholic and is NOT happy about this decision by the church.

The Church has no intention to please man for pleasure's sake but only to please God for God's sake. Sorry about your wife's boss. Why should he worry about what the new Pope teaches? If he wants to go his own way, no one will stop him. Your wife's boss will simply have to make a choice. The Church is not going to change for his sake.
Got news for your wife's boss. If he/she is unhappy with the new Pope for the same reasons these people are, then he/she is no Catholic. Period.
