Clashes between Wa and Shan fighters rage on eastern Burma
Democratic Voice of Burma ^ | April 20, 2005 | DVB

The clashes between the two sides have been going on since the beginning of March. But during the traditional Burmese New Year Thingyan festival, there have been reports of losses on both sides. Up to now, UWSA lost more than 100 soldiers and 200 wounded. Moreover, artillery shells landed on Thai territories and the Thai army have beefed up security along the border.

Nang Kher Seng also told DVB that some Burma’s military junta, State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) soldiers donned UWSA uniforms and fought alongside Wa troops, and that many child soldiers have been used by the attacking forces.

“It is not good for the country and the people that the junta is making the individuals or ethnic groups fight one another. It is the same as leaving a big bad historical legacy. It is not good that people who claim to lead the nation is doing thus. You can’t call it leading the country to peace either. The Burmese generals have no good will on its people. They have no mercy. They don’t feel any pity for the deaths of their followers. We ourselves are feeling saddened. The children who came to attack us are very young. They were crying and groaning. Some of them committed suicide. We are especially feeling saddened for them.”

How cruel and wicked the Burmese junta army (is) who intentionally has forced child-soldiers to be engaged in the ethnic clashes. Both warring ethnic groups need to avoid becoming too weak after long battles to defend the junta's army when attacked. They must stop fighting at the battlefield and talk across the table. This will be the best way to make ethnic existence safe and all understand and cooperate for future. Don't you think if this could be one of the ethnic cleansing or atrocities perpetrated by the SPDC junta?

According to both claims, the story of eight-men disappearance is still mysterious. However, it is possible that a third party could be blamed for that casue.

It would help to have a scorecard. Are there any good guys in this battle, or is it just a local conflict? I know that the Burmese government has no redeeming features, but what about the others mentioned? (Are any of them Muslims?)
