I am always pleased to see Tom Paine quoted, especially quoted repeatedly, in modern writing on political subjects. Thank you for posting this.

The fact therefore must be that the individuals themselves, each in his own personal and sovereign right, entered into a compact with each other to produce a government: and this is the only mode in which governments have a right to arise, and the only principle on which they have a right to exist.

This quote should be emblazoned on the cover of every American History/Civics textbook in this country.

It is appalling how few people understand that the founding documents delineate the limitations of the government over the people, not the other way around.

Thanks for the ping, Chris.

The U.S. Military has done its job against anti-freedom, foreign enemies.

It has paid the ultimate price for us to do our job against anti-freedom, domestic enemies.

Thomas Paine is right . (started to say, "right on the money"...but, lets not bring the $ into this..) and People are feeling the wisdom of his words. One example is down at the border. Thanks, Writer 33, for reminding me of Tom Paine.
