The Foreign Relations committee is supposed to meet at 2:45 to vote on the Bolton nomination. Lugar has refused requests for a delay. Just posted over at NR..

Voinovich Says No On Bolton 04/19 04:36 PM

George Voinovich just announced that he “does not feel comfortable” voting in favor of John Bolton on the Foreign Relations Committee. Hagel has announced he will vote for Bolton. The media has not focused on Voinovich for weeks, as he earlier announced his intentions to support Bolton.

UPDATE: In light of Voinovich's revelation, the SFRC agreed to delay the vote on Bolton for two weeks. After a month of speculating on Hagel and Chafee's intentions, it is the Republican senator from Ohio who probably just ended Bolton's chances of becoming U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

In addition, Voinovich did not attend the committee hearings last week - but he didn't let that stand in his way.

Its over..

The Democrat "attack" was obviously coordinated -- and it looked like they had some RINO help, because things changed radically as soon as the V guy spoke up.

This is why Tom Delay is worth his weight in gold. Lugar is unfit for that job because he is a wuss dealing with Tasmanian Devils. Frist needs to ask those three scumbags to resign if they are too lazy and stupid to know how to vote now. Voinovich should be the first to go,he gets paid a lot of money to do his freaking job.

I see they've all run into the next room to help my old Senator Babs get easier visas for students and documented seasonal workers.

Aviation students, no doubt.

Blaming Mehlman or others is displaced-

That statement wasn't by way of blaming Melman, whom I like, but by way of a warning. His job is raising money and stuff like this isn't going to make it easier. It was a kind of a heads up, if you will.

Hang in there, we'll get our 97-seat filibuster proof majority yet. I still think we'll get Bolton through and the Democrats have just wasted a fight over a UN nominee.

I just hope we aren't stupid enough to waste a fight on Chief Justice, we need to keep the powder dry to get a new member on the SCOTUS, not to upgrade an already seated Justice.

I just got home and haven't had a chance to read the thread, when I let there were 300 posts, now 1,000 posts later---

I just was watching the voting for the Mikulski cloture vote, and what do I see?

Sen. George Allen, and Sen. Chris Dodds laughing and joking around together---now, I haven't read the thread, but judging from what happened, WHY WOULD ALLEN BE JOKING AROUND WITH DODDS RIGHT NOW?

Voinovich just double crossed his leadership and his party....

WHY????

I think so, too; the senators don't care about Bush now; he's a lame duck to them and their kingdoms.

If Delay ran the Senate we wouldn't have this problem.

he's be making them bleed where it hurts. In special projects financed to buy votes from their constituents.

I just sent this to Lugar:

Dear Senator Lugar.

I want to thank you for your courage today.

There is no way that you would have known that Voinovich was going to rape you without as much as a kiss and a cigarette.

I am writing to request that you SOBs continue to fight for Bolton, and find out what those traitor on our side want before letting them blindside you again. You had the support of Free Republic today, and that is not a small thing. We have questioned your courage and your loyalty to the President. Today, you did well to save us to fight another day, and we won’t forget it.

Next time it would be nice to point out to Senator Biden, that none of you would have hired a known plagiarist either, had you known about their activities prior. I am not your biggest fan Lugar, but you showed me something today. In spite of that, I will withhold all money from anything and everything Republican until Bolton is confirmed, and the nuclear option has passed.

Don’t even think of letting us down again.

Sincerely, CAPT. XXXX X XXXXXXX US NAVY(RET)

You have to admire the way Biden, Sarbanes and Kerry played their roles today, they made lugar look like a "little leager".

He said he was busy with his "other" committee.

If I were Lugar, then I'd respond, "Well, George, if you're so busy, then maybe I should do something about it and take you off this committee. Wouldn't want you to be overworked." That would be the least he could do, seeing how Voinovich stabbed him in the back.

Never happen, of course.

I believe now that the only way to put this to an end is to call all those PEOPLE in front of the committee, put them UNDER OATH, and have them swear to what they are whispering about to Biden and Dodd.

This time WE need to prove that they are lying, period. Those people need to be totally discredited, IMO.

Alas, there doesn't seem to be anybody on that committee that will do that.

Because all Senators are little more than preening perfumed princes.

The RAT ones just bully better and yell louder.
