Very good choice. Much like John Paul 2.
Hooray!

Oh, I can hear the American media moaning already...Chrissy Matthews must be crying.
its not a duplicate post, they are two different sources...thanks for playing.
Sounds like a good man.
"Some people think that is Fundamentalism. I disagree."
A very powerful statement, and one that will not please the Liberals in the church. My wife attended a Jesuit college (LeMoyne), and she said the Liberal Jesuits really disliked Evangelicals, and pretty much counted them as "the enemy." The made no bones about it.
Of course, these were the same Jesuits that drove around campus with "Nuclear Freeze Now!" and "Reagan is a War Criminal!" bumper stickers.
Ha! Ha! The liberals can now commence their screeching!
So much for the "prophesy" of an "olive" pope.
"Olive" could mean something more than the color of his skin. Others in St. Malachy's prophecy included elements from the Pope's family coat of arms, for example.
In this photo released by the German Catholic News Agency KNA and dated from July, 8, 1951 Joseph Ratzinger, standing right, is seen with his family, father Josef, mother Maria and sister Maria, seated from right, and brother Georg following their ordination to the priesthood. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger of Germany, a longtime guardian of doctrinal orthodoxy, was elected the new pope Tuesday April 19, 2005 in the first Roman Catholic conclave of the new millennium. He chose the name Pope Benedict XVI
The latest book of German Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger 'Values in a Time of Upheaval' sits on a table in a bookstore in Berlin on April 15, 2005. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger of Germany, a longtime guardian of doctrinal orthodoxy, was elected the new pope Tuesday, April 19, 2005 evening in the first conclave of the new millennium. He chose the name Pope Benedict XVI.
I think he was picked to battle Islam in Europe.
Do any of the symbols that you suggest signify "olive" here?
I guess if one digs deep and wide enough, one can find something to prop up any prophecy.
Let's pray for the liberals' conversion to Christ instead.
Chris Matthews had that Bush basher Fr Greeley on last night and they were obviously pained at the thought of another "conservative" as Holy Father. Chris mentioned Cardinal Ratzinger's membership in the Hitler youth without bothering to explain it was compulsory, and a cheap attack on him. Greeley said even this would not affect the cardinals who planned to vote for Ratzinger, as if they were somehow soft on naziism. How absurd.
I wish him well in his endeavor. This is a most serious issue in my mind.
