but they undoubtedly love Robert Byrd, and think his involvement in the Klan in his mid-20s was simply a youthful indiscretion.

I wouldn't be too upset by it. This guy is misstating Catholic belief a bit.

Christ designated Peter to carry on, not as the Son of God, but as the head of His Church.

The Popes respectively occupy the Chair of Peter and are known as the Vicar of Christ, not as Christ.

We don't worship them nor do they hold themselves out to be Christ on Earth.

Amen. Being a Protestant myself (and German btw), I believe that we Christians have to stand together against the enemies of peace.

Of course the church gets it. This is done with all Protestants and Catholics, no other religion fulfills the conditions issued by the state. The amount is 9% of the income tax.

No. It derives from Bismarck, who separated church and state and wanted this to get infos about the money of the churches.

Well get ready the next Pope will be one of those you mentioned. Ratzinger is a care-taker Pope at best.

Why do you say that? Do you expect him to die soon?

"ignoring the gospels, favor abortion, etc."

!!!!! Actually this protestant believes the Gospels and totally opposes abortion!

"catholic church, which is the church of St. Peter, the church of all christianity on earth. "

That is another of the claims I disagree with.

"The Catholic Church grew by 250,000,000 during his tenure."

You bet! There are a lot of lonely people in the world today and the missionaries know where to find them. It's just more money for the Vatican to spend on defending their priests.

Why do these Popes have to be so old? Reminds of the old USSR Premieres who could never say alive long enough to negotiate with Reagan.

Buckwheat the guy is 78 and taking on huge responsibilities that would test even a younger man. At best this man may last 5 years. He is the second oldest Pope ever elected. Pope Clement XII was elected in 1730 at 78 and was in failing health even then and going deaf but somehow lasted 10 years. But that was 250 years ago and the burdens have only gotten heavier for anyone Pope.
So I believe that this Pope will be there only a few years and if he lasts more than 5 I will be surprised.

That looks like flame-bait, but I'm afraid it's too incomprehensible to even know how to respond.

"I sauntered over to DU to check it out. I don't think I have ever seen such foul language used in the same sentence as the word Pope. Those folks are very sick puppies."

Pray for them brother, as I do. They are not wicked or evil. They just do not know what they are doing. They are so lamenatable. God forgive them.

I kind of imagine certain scenes from "The Exorcist" being played out in DUmmie households across America.

The church tax (Kirchensteuer) predates Hitler by about 100 years. It was first introduced in 1827 and was incorporated into the Weimar constitution.
