Illegal Invasion Harming Military Training
Soldiers For The Truth ^ | 2005 Apr 18 | Matthew Dodd

Imagine a horror movie with the title, “Encroachment Meets Illegal Aliens.” If that title does not stir your imagination, what about a documentary called, “Military Readiness and Illegal Immigration: How lack of border enforcement is hurting combat training.”

For Marine warriors training at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) at Yuma, Ariz., they do not need to imagine those things because they are living with the realities of both.

To clarify, I use the term “illegal aliens” to describe non-U.S. citizens who cross our borders into our country without proper documentation and without following or adhering to our customs and immigration laws. In other words, they have entered our country illegally, so I choose to call them “illegal aliens” for I believe it is the most accurate description.

Besides the often-heard social, political and economic arguments for and against tighter enforcement of our borders and our immigration laws, there is now a new and growing compelling reason to restrict access by illegal aliens to our country: maintaining military readiness during a time of war.

According to an article in The Boston Globe on Apr. 7:

“Marines preparing for combat in Iraq or Afghanistan have lost significant amounts of training time because undocumented immigrants from Mexico have constantly wandered onto a bombing test range in Arizona, according to the commander of this base along the border. … Since July 2004, the training range has been shut down more than 500 times because of immigrants spotted on the range, causing a loss of more than 1,100 training hours, said Colonel James J. Cooney, the base’s commanding officer …. ‘That's equivalent to almost 46 days of training. We're getting overrun here,’ he said in an interview.”

This invasion is getting in the way of our training for service overseas.

Something in this reminds me of Rome during it decline. Soldiers keeping the peace in distant provinces while Rome itself collapses.

The irony is that the groups helping the illegals cross say they are trying to help them. The reality is quite different.

I was talking with a Yuma Marine about the problem and he said whenever they do range maintenance they always find bodies of the illegals that didn't make it, dying of dehydration and exposure.

You suppose there's another Arthur out in Afghanistan?

Britain didn't do too badly for herself when Rome fell.

All ready on the left, all ready on the right, all ready on the firing line!

Maybe the Corps can get the W administration to WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!
