In one year alone, records show, Roybal's then-wife called deputies for help six times alleging domestic violence. In one case, she was hospitalized with three broken ribs and a possible collapsed lung. Prosecutors did not pursue charges in any of the incidents.

Roybal later told investigators that his level of intoxication was probably an eight on a scale of one to 10, he was blacking out and was so drunk he "could have raped ten nuns," the file says.
