Carrying "Don't Tread on Me" flags and "Ax the Tax" signs, 20 New Hampshirites converged on New Hampshire's biggest post office April 15 to oppose the "Internal Robbery Squadron." The facility, located on Goffs Falls Road in Manchester annually serves as the destination of choice for last-minute filers.
The demonstrators stayed in action from 11 AM to midnight but were not all there at the same time. They handed out flyers praising as heroes those who refuse to pay the tax. They got coverage on the state's main AM radio network (WGIR) and in the Union Leader paper but were ignored by the state's primary TV station. Interestingly, they were also largely ignored by local postal officials who allowed the protest to occur on post office property. But curious postal workers and tax filers lined up to watch the fun.
About half of the protesters were Free Staters, members of a movement urging liberty lovers to move to New Hampshire and establish "liberty in our lifetime."
