There's this one kid I know who jumped on the hood of his sister's car when she pulled into the driveway one day. He scared her half to death and she swerved. Somehow he ended up rolling under the tires and, you guessed it: thump, thump.
The sister panicked, thinking he was stuck under the car, so she threw it in reverse and backed up. She ran over him a second time. Thump, thump!
The kid was lucky to get away with some broken ribs. When he told me about it, I thought I was going to fall over laughing.

Thanks for the info!
Yes, I agree with your contention. Let's not make this into a psycho-tragedy for everyone! Good answer. Thanks!
Sounds like the school is much more in need of Common Sense Counselors rather than Grief Counselors. I'm sure the same holds true for most shools.
I went all the way through school without even seeing a school nurse except for one hearing test, and now we have legions of counselors.. for every student's accident or untimely death.. no wonder the ABZs get left out.
Too late smart. . .for victim and 'perp'. . .
. . .though there seems to be a sharing of driver responsibilities as it is reported that more than one person was driving . . . '"He was on top of a hood and they slammed on the brake and he fell off'
And they thought he wouldn't?
About 30 FPS, a 100 pound teen will hit a stationary object with thousands of foot pounds of force.
Good one. . .
. . .yes, exactly. . .and rub their noses in it; if they seem not to get it. . .
Yes, simple 'cause and effect'. . .like if you pull a chair out from someone when they are trying to sit down. . .they WILL fall; and perhaps crack their tailbone. . .or worse.
Seems the importance of a 'collective guilt' is appreciated so as to not overburden the driver as well. . .
"He was on top of a hood and they slammed on the brake and he fell off ... trapped under the tires," said student Amanda Hocking, who was in ROTC with Brandon.
"He was just playing around. It wasn't supposed to turn out that way..."
That's called "reality", kid. Hope your "grief counselor" lays that one on you. |
Maybe the car did not stop on the proverbial dime, but the kid did.
And what exactly does a "grief counselor" say in this case to assuage grief?
1. "Don't worry, he's not really dead -- just differently vital."
2. "Look at the bright side: accidents like these just improve the gene pool."
3. "He died doing something he really enjoyed."
Or do you suppose the grief counselors might talk about life after death and the resurrection? Somehow, I don't think so.
Actually, I'm surprised there aren't more dead teens due to dumb driving stunts.
"I would say also the driver needs some sort of 'darwin' award. "slamming" on the brakes was not exactly the smartest thing to do either."
She probably saw one too many Hollywood action-adventure flicks.
Had one of those grief counselor moments in Arlington, VA yesterday after a garbage truck collided with a school bus. Elementary school kids on board. One child dead, two injured seriously. This is a tragedy, but what do these counselors do for kids in the wake of such sadness? Quite right, I don't think they refer to faith and how that can help us all through the rough patches in life. I just can't imagine how this can help the kids for the long-haul, other than to make them weak and squishy instead of strong and resilient.
