Hundreds protest Minuteman Project at U.S.-Mexico border
07:17 AM Mountain Standard Time on Monday, April 18, 2005
By The Associated Press
SIERRA VISTA -- Raising their voices and arms in song and reaching across the border in fellowship, hundreds of U.S. and Mexican citizens gathered at a metal wall dividing the United States and Mexico in Naco.
The demonstration Sunday was sponsored by churches from both countries in response to the Minuteman Project.
"It's a way of healing the border," said Harry Walters of Bisbee.
Minuteman volunteers began spreading out earlier this month along a 23-mile stretch of desert between Douglas and Naco. They alert authorities when they see someone cross the border but are not supposed to detain anyone.
Organizers say they want the patrols to call attention to what they say is the federal government's failure to secure the border.

"It's a way of healing the border," said Harry Walters of Bisbee. How daft can some individuals be?
When the border gets a boo-boo, somebody has to kiss it and make it better.

Sounds like there are hundreds depressed over the lack of mainstream media coverage.

The demonstration Sunday was sponsored by churches from both countriesHow about that whole 'obeying lawful authority' thing St. Paul advised? I guess we've got a better idea these days. Since we're so sophisticated and all.

I'd like to see more separation of Church and politics.
Went to the neighborhood Episcopal church Sunday; the sermon had a heavy dose of "open gates" "un-necessary wars" and "more welfare." That's the last time for me at that church!

A wall is only needed where the border goes right through a town. In open country, a double fence is not only much cheaper, it's much more effective, because the Border Patrol can see what's going on on the other side. We have a steel wall in some of San Diego County, made from rusty surplus steel runway matting. It's got a huge problem: it's opaque! The smugglers can lead thousands of illegals to their jumping over points, right behind it, out of sight of the border patrol. Hundreds of ladders are built all over the Mexican side of this wall! The coyotes just wait until the Border Patrol drives over the hill out of sight, and then everybody jumps over the wall and runs into the brush.

"It's a way of healing the border" I didn't realize the border needed to be "healed". Illnesses and injuries need to be healed. Borders which are being illegally crossed in total disregard for the immigration laws of a sovereign nation need to be closed.

Reminds me of the idiots in War of the Worlds, Mars Attacks, and Independence Day who go out to welcome the aliens and get blasted to smithereens.LOL. I always think that same thing!
They're out there holding signs like "We are your friends/ We come in peace/ Welcome" and at the same time the enemy is preparing to turn them into human dust particles.

Maybe we should just 'surrender' to Mexico...

Good point. We should run 100,000 volts of electricity through it too.

"hundreds?" WOW
now was that two hundred and one
or nine hundred and ninety nine! LOL
meanwhile, illegals were deterred from crossing where the MM were stationed...
kind of legitimizes what we have been saying lately and George Putnam has been saying for decades...
if you post the PB, the illegals will not come...

I would prefer a minefield. Works wonders in the DMZ between North and South Korea.

"The demonstration Sunday was sponsored by churches from both countries in response to the Minuteman Project."Apparently, these are 'churches' that don't have a problem with illegally crossing borders between countries.
And here all this time, I thought the bible told us to obey the laws of the land.

Looking on the bright side, with so many protestors milling about, the illegals will be reluctant to cross at that point.
