Iraq Car Bomb Kills American Activist

SAN FRANCISCO - A woman who founded a humanitarian group to aid civilian casualties in Iraq has died in a car bombing in Baghdad, officials said Sunday.

Marla Ruzicka, founder of Campaign for Innocent Victims in Conflict, died Saturday in the blast, which also killed an Iraqi and another foreigner, officials said. She had been in Iraq conducting door-to-door surveys trying to determine the number of civilian casualties in the country.

Ruzicka, 28, founded CIVIC in 2003 to "mitigate the impact of the conflict and its aftermath on the people of Iraq by ensuring that timely and effective life-saving assistance is provided to those in need," according to the group's Web site.

Ruzicka's parents said Sunday they were notified of her death just hours after the explosion. U.S. Embassy officials publicly released Ruzicka's name Sunday.

"We've been very worried about her but we know better than to tell our children not to do anything. We were supportive and just reminded her to be careful," said her mother, Nancy Ruzicka, of Lakeport.

She said her daughter had left her a telephone message the night before her death that said, "Mom and dad, I love you. I'm OK."

"She cared about people and gave people her love and help," Nancy Ruzicka said. "I'll remember the love she spread around the world and the good ambassador that she was for her country."

Ruzicka got her start working for non-governmental organizations 10 years ago at the San Francisco-based human rights group Global Exchange.

"It's a terrible tragedy and a tragic irony that somebody who devoted her life to helping the victims of war would herself become a victim of war," said Medea Benjamin, the group's director.

It is nice to actually see one of the facists that are trying to bring down America finding out what the terrorists are really like. Depends. The story has her canvassing to document civilian casulties. If that was her main focus, I suspect it was mainly an "anti-American" project.

If she was primarily handing out aid to non-combatants, and was apolitical, then I join you. However, given her ties to Global Exchange, the mothership for Code Pinko, Occupation Watch and the midwife for UFPJ, I smell a rat.

Since the Commies propogate "front groups" to make themselves look like several groups rather than one Castro worshiping cult, the question of CIVIC's ties to the Manson Sisters, i.e., Benjamin, Evans and Murphy, is one that needs to be answered. I swear they all look like they should be wearing buttons that say, "What Would Charlie Do?"

Medea will be dancing is her associate's blood for all it's worth tomorrow and in the coming days. Wonder if they'll parade a symbolic coffin with a Che flag on it?

I have my suspicion about why an active dissident would be in such proximity to a car bomb.

The terrorists aim for soft targets and common folk. First because they don't have the stomach for a real fight and secondly because it helps spread terror. So I suspect she was just unlucky to be with ordinary Iraqis.

If it was not random, I'd suspect they targeted her because Code Pink having a martyr would be useful to them. It would hand Code Pink a "prize pony" to display. Everyone knows they don't give a damn about dead or wounded soldiers, that they use them as props.

I doubt she was working directly with "the resistance" because they look down on women. But who knows, if she was, it wouldn't surprise me.

Until I see evidence of actual relief work, I'm thinking, "Sorry she's dead, but suspect her anti-American politics killed her." Risking your life to feed the poor, cloth the naked, heal the sick like those Bible Thumping, Right WIng Religous Fanatics (to paraphrase the left) do is honorable. To die for a belief that Communism is better than the US system, that's not.

I doubt she ran anything eqivalenat to "Feed The Children".
