DCF: Terri Schiavo Not Abused, Exploited

State Agency: Terri Schiavo Was Not Abused or Exploited by Either Side of Her Family

By VICKIE CHACHERE

The Associated Press

Apr. 16, 2005 - State investigators found no evidence that Terri Schiavo had been abused or exploited by either side of her family, according to documents released by Florida's Department of Children and Families.

The agency investigated 89 complaints dating back to 2001, when Schiavo's feeding tube was removed for the first time and the legal battle surrounding her right-to-die case intensified.

The calls alleged that the brain-damaged woman was being mistreated by her husband and her parents for financial gain. One complaint alleged that Schiavo's parents were selling videos of her through a Web site; another said Schiavo's husband wasn't spending money intended for her rehabilitation.

But investigators said they found no evidence that either her husband or parents were exploiting her, and often noted in their records that they found Schiavo well cared for on their visits to her Pinellas Park hospice.

The agency released the records Friday under court order.

Schiavo, 41, died last month after her feeding tube was removed for the third time, ending a bitter court battle between her husband, Michael Schiavo, and parents, Robert and Mary Schindler, over whether she would have wanted to live in a vegetative state.

The repeated allegations of abuse were based partly on bone scans showing Terri Schiavo suffered fractures and statements she made to family and friends that she was unhappy in her marriage.

Schiavo's husband has denied harming his wife. His lawyer said the fractures resulted from osteoporosis caused by the woman's years of immobility and complications of her medication.

Robert Schindler declined to comment there on the release of the DCF documents. An attorney for Michael Schiavo did not immediately return calls.

I think Diogenesis has the link to the bone scan performed 13 months after Terri's "incident".

The report is by a Dr. Walker about broken bones in the neck, the right femur, both knees and ankles and compression fractures in her lower spine.

That's my point. She might have had low potassium due to the diet she was on or due to the high intake of fluids but I don't think that was what caused Terri's problem.

Usually those who drink too much fluid drown in their lungs from fluid build up but it would definitely affect their electrolyte levels.

If one drinks too much fluid, one drowns from fluid in the lungs. We had several soldiers die of it last year plus I think some sports people.

I think you should read the report by Dr. Walker about the broken bones caused by trauma. I think you should read about the conversation that Terri had with her friend the day before she had this "incident".

I don't keep the urls I just bookmark the threads. I know there is always someone like EternalVigilance, yellowdoghunter, or Diogenesis who keep track of the urls.

Actually, I over hydrated myself a couple of times and actually collapsed. I was taken to the emergency room and given IVs to restore my electrolyte imbalance. The first time I was on Optifast to lose weight and simply drank too much water. The second time I was exercising and again drank too much water. At no time was I diagnosed with too much fluid in my lungs. However, it was severe enough that there was a concern for my heart.

I've never had that problem. Just reporting on what the news reports said last year when so many died from too much water.

Hmm but you better watch it or next someone will accuse you of being bulemic because of your electrolyte imbalance while dieting and drinking alot of fluids. ;)

Just got the impression from your posts that you believed drinking too much fluid always caused drowning from fluid in the lungs. I wanted to let you know that isn't always the case.

Watch out for that MSM thing. Might be interesting to find out what the cause of the deaths were for certain though.

It's called water toxicity, washes out your electrolytes and at one of the stages causes a euphoric state that some become addicted to.

Also, some diuretics can cause low potassium. Lasix is an example, and it used to be commonly prescribed for short term weight loss.

being bulemic

That was one of the questions the doctors asked me. And it was a legitimate question.

I should have written "can cause fluid build up in the lungs."

No I know the electrolyte imbalance happens before any fluid build up in the lungs.

The reason they asked about the bulemia was my vomiting. Another symptom of over hydration.

If you had an inquiring mind, sarcasm wouldn't be dripping from your posts. YOU need sarcasm or fabrication to make a post due to a lack of substance.

You, my dear, are very far from have an inquiring mind. Your type of inquiring mind has one factor - to insult - to demean not for searching out truth.

Undermine the conservation forum of FR? Now just how conservative are you with with your mindset for not standing up against evil that has demonstrated itself ever so large in this case - an innocent prisoner at the hands of a lawyer who dreams of death to others - can see it in one's eye that they want death, a two-timing husband who has a mistress who conceived two of his children while playing the loving husband who chose to end a life instead of relinquishing his own to her loving parents and deny Terri's blood relatives to be w/her in her last moments. A corrupt judge who wouldn't even allow Terri to be spoon fed or given a drink of water and allowed a guardianship that was in indeed compromised. It was never to do right by Terri - it was having MS wishes be granted.

Tell me, how does that play with your conservative values?
Now who is here pushing their liberal black robbed values? You are totally out of sync with FR and it's conservative forum. As all can well see, being conservative is not a prerequisite for posting. Doesn't matter how long some one was here - they just ride the fence and go against the grain and whenever sarcasm hits, what they call, their 'inquiring mind' they post a message.

To stir up more dissent? Can't handle that there is ONE more voice standing up for 'life and liberty'. You obviously want dissent because you would be in agreement with any liberal site and you would have no place to spew your sarcasm and what all your neighbors and friends think and how they aren't going to give TONS of money anymore to the GOP. And how the GOP has said they heard the same thing. So obvious is your planted statements. I heard the exact opposite. They are getting behind Bush in any way they can to bring on his wishes for more conservative judges. But you and ALL your neighbors and ALL your friends are going to withhold money and they are so angry w/the GOP. You are as believable as MS.

I agree with your "LOL" next to your inquiring mind. That admission on your part is quite refreshing.

You can't stand the facts so you do the next liberal thing - let's look at the background - whoopee!! this one is new - that's what we will attack, they are a plant! - a PAID one at that. I must be pretty good at this, if you think I'm being paid. So old, so boring, so obvious, so childlike, so predictable, and ever so "Peachie".

Also, some of the complaints were against the Schindlers (I see that's noted in this article, too, but you chose to represent the complaints as all against the husband).

Yeah I'm sure well over 86 of them were the parents abusing Terri like trying to get her therapy or put her feeding tube back in. Glad you see her husband an accused stalker and serial philanderer as an upstanding role model! Yutz!

And what of it? What's the beef, sweetie?

How dare someone of conservative values invade "your" space?
Is that it?
