DCF: Terri Schiavo Not Abused, Exploited

State Agency: Terri Schiavo Was Not Abused or Exploited by Either Side of Her Family

By VICKIE CHACHERE

The Associated Press

Apr. 16, 2005 - State investigators found no evidence that Terri Schiavo had been abused or exploited by either side of her family, according to documents released by Florida's Department of Children and Families.

The agency investigated 89 complaints dating back to 2001, when Schiavo's feeding tube was removed for the first time and the legal battle surrounding her right-to-die case intensified.

The calls alleged that the brain-damaged woman was being mistreated by her husband and her parents for financial gain. One complaint alleged that Schiavo's parents were selling videos of her through a Web site; another said Schiavo's husband wasn't spending money intended for her rehabilitation.

But investigators said they found no evidence that either her husband or parents were exploiting her, and often noted in their records that they found Schiavo well cared for on their visits to her Pinellas Park hospice.

The agency released the records Friday under court order.

Schiavo, 41, died last month after her feeding tube was removed for the third time, ending a bitter court battle between her husband, Michael Schiavo, and parents, Robert and Mary Schindler, over whether she would have wanted to live in a vegetative state.

The repeated allegations of abuse were based partly on bone scans showing Terri Schiavo suffered fractures and statements she made to family and friends that she was unhappy in her marriage.

Schiavo's husband has denied harming his wife. His lawyer said the fractures resulted from osteoporosis caused by the woman's years of immobility and complications of her medication.

Robert Schindler declined to comment there on the release of the DCF documents. An attorney for Michael Schiavo did not immediately return calls.

They dont' care if middle america thinks they are whack jobs. There is a scripture in the Bible that states that those of faith will not be accepted or be popular in the culture (sorry that's not the KJV, but it's a close paraphrase). They latch on to that. They embrace it. They don't care if they win or lose as long as they have alienated everyone to the issue.

So you can't answer the questions I asked.

Your 'questions' are nothing more than a further inditement of the Republican establishment. If anyone wanted to help, all they had to do was do so. The Schindler family begged daily for such assistance.

But they didn't. They sat on their complacent and selfish posteriors.

At least Dr. Keyes and some others worked hard to make the constitutional arguments that were at the core of this case.

He camped on Jeb's doorstep for several days with the constitutional brief that explicitly and brilliantly outlined the Governor's rights, authority and duties.

But he was totally rebuffed. I'll never forgive Jeb Bush for that, or for the additional insult in the fact that he warmly welcomed Jesse Jackson and even had a press conference with him. Jackson was there for only one reason. To help Jesse Jackson.

One of the most cynical and disgusting things I've ever seen, after having watched Jeb cry crocodile tears for so long in front of the cameras about how he was 'doing all he could', and 'would someone please show me some legal basis by which I can act?'

So, please don't lecture me, or insult me with snide references about which you know nothing.

You seem to think having the Great One speak would have made a difference?

Greer spoke. And no other court would interfere with the blind judges decision.

As far as MY BOSS goes, HE has the final say!! You never mess with 'one of HIS own'. That is why HE is the ALMIGHTY! Venegence is Mine, says The Lord. The trash on this earth can kill, rob and destroy and hide behind some man-made law and thus claim justice. - but life here is short - eternity is forever. What you sow, you reap - NO getting around that.

Doesn't matter who believes that or not - IT WILL NOT CHANGE for IT IS WRITTEN.

The funny thing about this whole issue is that most of us who don't buy into this whole conspiracy deal didn't think it was right for Terri's feeding tube to be removed just as most of us probably don't believe abortion is moral but the law allows for such. No conspiracy just the law.

Preach your sermon to someone else.

I would never presume to preach a sermon to you. As I told you yesterday, you are obviously already immune.

I would have more respect for those who agree with Terri's killing ...

if they, at least, were upset by the judge writing an order forbidding anyone to bring anything near her mouth. and kept security officers in the room to make sure that Terri never felt a drop of water on her lips.

Water on parched lips is not an extraordinary measure. The forbidding of it is certainly extraordinary.

I would have more respect for those who agree with Terri's killing if they would admit that money changed the husband.

And it changed the Schindlers, too.

Schiavo's husband has denied harming his wife. His lawyer said the fractures resulted from osteoporosis caused by the woman's years of immobility and complications of her medication.

The bone scan showing the fractures was taken in '91, only about a year after Terri's collapse.

And, boy, no one - certainly not Fla.'s DCF - wants to address that bone scan. Everyone on M.S.'s side just skips around it.

Terri was both incurable and feeble-minded, but her death should not have come at the time of a judge's choosing, but of God's choosing.

Amen.

Your look back to the days when the Hippocratic Oath, the vow to 'do no harm', actually meant something to the medical community in America is very apt.

Well you seem to have a fan (some 68 thing) who thinks it would have been Terri's wish for the money to influence Michael, but I can't say I could agree to that.

Don't bother addressing me.

As long as you're on FR, on threads I'm posting on, making anti-Christian Leftist posts, I'll address you just as much as I want.

You ask some stupid questions and make a lot of ignorant statements.

Name one.

...woefully, they're bringing us down with them.

You want to read about woes, and what causes them, read Matthew 25. The last part of the chapter that condemns nations that won't give the thirsty a drink of water...

Wouldn't be possible to 'bring you down' anyhow. Can't go any lower than the bottom.

Poor Terry was both incurable and feeble-minded.

Terry was NOT poor. She was awarded money and her husband used it for his own purpose.

Incurable? Did she have a disease? She was disabled and could not improve, or NEITHER COULD YOU in you were in her situation, because she was denied therapy - physical and speech. Worse cases than Terri's have improved greatly with therapy. Why do you think they have intensive therapy for - the able or the disabled?? That was MS's plan, no therapy means no improvement. You don't need to be a rock scientist to know that - even a low life two-timer knows that.

Feeble-minded? How so? Who told you that?

So your poor Terri was neither poor, nor incurable, nor feeble-minded.
