That photograph of him coming back to the White house on 12th September 2001 is so moving what must have been going through his mind on the events of the last few days.

Eleanor, what are the details on that photo (i.e. when and where was it taken, and under what circumstances?). It looks like the window of a plane. Was he coming back to the White House by plane on Sept 12? If so, that implies that he was taken out of the DC area on Sept 11, perhaps after GWB arrived back?
