A day in the life of President Bush (4/16/05): photos
WhiteHouse.gov; Yahoo News Photos ^ | 4/16/05

Posted on 04/16/2005 12:36:48 PM PDT by Wolfstar

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President and First Lady are spending the weekend at Camp David, and there are no planned public appearances. President and Mrs. Bush reported total income last year of $784,219 and paid $207,307 in federal income taxes, according to documents released by the White House on April 15, 2005. Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife Lynne reported $1.3 million in taxable income, the White House said.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Monday, the President will go to Columbia, South Carolina, where he'll make remarks on strengthening Social Security.

Tuesday, the President will go to Springfield, Illinois, where he will tour the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, and then make remarks at the dedication of the library and museum. Also on Tuesday, the Vice President will deliver the keynote address at the Oklahoma City National Memorial ceremony to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building there.

Wednesday, the President makes remarks to the 2005 National and State Teachers of the Year in the Rose Garden. And then he'll make remarks at the U.S.-Hispanic Chambers of Commerce Legislative Conference. Those remarks will be on energy, as I mentioned. The President will then present the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy to the United States Naval Academy football team in the East Room.

Thursday, GWB will make remarks on strengthening Social Security to the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America in Washington. He'll also make remarks at the President's Environmental Youth Awards in the East Garden.

Friday, the President will participate in a service project. And then he'll make remarks on Earth Day. And both those events are in Townsend, Tennessee. Then he goes on to the ranch in Crawford, where he'll remain for the weekend.

THE FOLLOWING WEEK: On Monday the 25th, the President will meet with Crown Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia at the ranch. And then on Tuesday, he will go to Galveston to participate in a roundtable on strengthening Social Security. This event had been postponed because of the Pope's funeral.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the Presidential Radio Address, 4/16/05:

American families and small businesses across the country are feeling the pinch from rising gas prices. If you're trying to meet a family budget or a payroll, even a small change at the pump can have a big impact.

America's prosperity depends on reliable, affordable and secure sources of energy. And today our energy needs are growing faster than our domestic sources are able to provide. Demand for electricity has grown more than 17 percent in the past decade, while our transmission ability lags behind. And we continue to import more than one-half of our domestic oil supply.

Every source of power that we use today started with the power of human invention, and those sources have served us well for decades. Now it's time to apply our knowledge and technology to keep the American Dream alive in this new century. There is nothing America cannot achieve when we put our mind to it. And I urge Congress to work out its differences and pass an energy bill that will help make America safer and more prosperous for the years to come.

Hey things can wait like essay writing and work (in my case). I am very lucky I can catch up with everyone during my work time which is when everyone is active on the thread.

How did you find the thread? Have you gone on the ping list??

The trouble is - will my lecturer agree? I can hear it now, "I'm sorry sir, I was chatting to people all over the world about how great President Bush is!" No, I better go and finish it... BTW can I get a job like yours? :)

No I'm not on the ping list (I don't even know what that means really). I found the site through a general search for pictures of the President, as I was looking for more than Yahoo

Thanks again for the welcome. Go Aussie Bush team - two members and growing!

Females are 18-21 pounds. Dogs are 19-22 pounds when full grown.

Wolfstar: Thanks for the Sunday photos!

We were discussing the other day whether or not the President would become the Commissioner of Baseball after he concludes his second term. The following article SEEMS to contain the answer to this question:

PRESIDENT LOVES, FOLLOWS BASEBALL
by Hal Bodley
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/columnist/bodley/2005-04-15-bodley-president_x.htm

EXCERPTS:

WASHINGTON — Outside, tulips were in full bloom. Workers were manicuring the lush green grass as a bright sun splashed the beautiful landscape.

Inside the Oval Office at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., spring was also in the air. President Bush was talking baseball. His blue eyes were bright, his mood was relaxed and he acted like he wished he could walk to the RFK Stadium mound and toss that first pitch to Nationals catcher Brian Schneider right away. That would come much later in his busy day.

"I'm honored to be throwing out the first pitch, continuing a tradition of presidents throwing out the first pitch for a Washington baseball team," the president said, sliding down in his chair to relax more. "It's really a great moment."

. . .

Q. Will you return to baseball after your second term is over?

A. No. I will always be involved with baseball (as a fan) because I love the game, but first of all, I don't know what I'm going to do. I've got my hands full right now.

. . .

Q. Would you rather have been commissioner of baseball or president?

A. No, I'd rather be president. The presidency really is a great opportunity to help change the world. It's a fantastic opportunity, a great experience. I would never trade this experience for anything. I love my country, and I love serving America.

You ask about the presidency. Putting the steroids issue in the State of the Union address had an effect. Sen. John McCain stepped in, you all wrote about it, called people to account, and there was a response. There's an example of how this office can affect people in a positive way. When it's all said and done, a lot of responsible citizens said to a sport, "Fix yourself. Now." And it's working.

We here at the DOSE love having our Aussie and British friends join us each day as we celebrate the presidency of George W Bush, a man with the moral clarity and intestinal fortitude necessary to win the global war on terrorism!

[I know we also have Polish and Italian friends who also visit the thread regularly! May God bless you all!]

Here is a lovely photo of Dick and Lynne taken in January 2004 at the beginning of their visit to Rome, note she is wearing the scarf that she wore in December to Afghanistan. If you look at the clothes that Lynne wears she seems to re-cycle them the same with the VP. He has a pair of trousers that he seems to like to wear quite often

I think this is the great not only does this identify them with the normal American people who cannot buy a new outfit for each occasion but also shows that however much money or status you have one should not be wasteful.

Absolutely you can tell by the way he is semi smiling that he is enjoying her attention. I love the way that he is almost ignoring not taking notice of what she is doing but is obvious that he is very aware and enjoying it. It is so natural and shows that it is something that he used to her doing.

I'm sorry, but this is just an asinine question. Maybe well-meant, but what American with high ambition would WANT to be commissioner of baseball as opposed to President? There is no comparison.

Welcome to the best place on the Internet.

There are lots of us who don't get to see the Dose until the next Morning, so don't be afraid to chime in. I think if there were more of us who spoke up, we'd have a "second breath" of the Dose!!!

Whereabouts are you?

I'm in Northern Virginia, right outside of DC. Twenty minutes in my car, and I'm in the center of DC like in front of the White House or looking at the Washington Monument.

Thanks for your response, Kath, and for the explanation of the Scottie standard. Does Beezie's size look about right to you for a not-quite-6-mo-old puppy? She seems a little small to me, but then I don't know much about Scotties as a breed.

Also how can a sitting President say I would rather be doing something else especially something that most people outside professional sport would consider a recreational pastime.
