An Alpharetta man who severely beat a 4-month-old puppy received a 20-year sentence -- five to be served in prison -- and was barred from owning animals during the next two decades, the Fulton County district attorney's office announced Friday. Thomas E. Spencer's sentence in the first felony animal cruelty case in Fulton County history covers the beating and other incidents dating back to 2000 and 2002, authorities said. Spencer, 56 was also ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment.
Spencer pleaded guilty to aggravated cruelty to animals, terroristic threats, arson, threatening a witness in an official proceeding, driving with a suspended license and possession of cocaine. In December 2000, Alpharetta police found Spencer kneeling on a bed with the German shepherd wedged between his knees, punching the puppy in the head, police said. The puppy's eyes were swollen shut and bleeding. He had been beating it throughout the day and threatening the life of his girlfriend.
No wonder criminals are laughing at the courts.
These are the people Hillary wants to get the vote.
This is in the Atlanta Journal Constitution - Fulton County

Yikes! Spencer is truly a sick pu . . . sonuvabeech (heh, you thought I was gonna say "sick puppy", dintcha) ??? ;-))
A raving lunatic.
If it had been a child he beat up he would get 5 yrs probation and counseling.
Should be 5 years inside a small crate. I've always believed in the "crating" method. Only lem him out to do his business, no more than 3 minutes, out in the yard...
A raving lunatic.

I've been awake for 32 hours now.
Hang on . . . I'll be all raved out in another few hours . . .
but unfortunately, the lunacy will remain unscathed !!! ;-))
LOL
Go to bed.
And they aaaaall moved away from him on the bench
When I first saw this headline, I thought it was another case of how we people off for hurting people, but punish them for hurting animals.
Then when I read it, I realised that if there was any anti-human bias, it was in the writer, not the courts.
"cruelty to animals, terroristic threats, arson, threatening a witness in an official proceeding, driving with a suspended license and possession of cocaine"
Of all those items, the most important to the writer was that he beat a puppy.
How about "drug-using arsonist sentenced after threatening witness".
That's exactly how it stuck me.
But, perhaps the writer thought it would get lost in all the other crimes reported each day.
"An Alpharetta man who severely beat a 4-month-old puppy received a 20-year sentence -- five to be served in prison"
He should have claimed that the puppy was in a persistent vegetative state and and starved it to death, the judge might have passed it off as "right to die" and his lawyer claim that it was peaceful and beautiful to impress the libs.
"In other Alpharetta news, a march sponsored by NOW celebrated a woman's right to choose."
Maybe liberals have a point.
Maybe some abortions make sense.
Wow, this country is sos screwed up. This idiot gets 5 years in jail for abusing a DOG! A DOG!!!
Yet every piece of garbage child molester gets a slap on the wrist and sent back out to menace our children. I live in Tampa and in recent months I spent HOURS on the internet, and looking at other public records in person, compiling detailed dossiers on the registered sex offenders living in our neighborhood in an effort to protect our daughters. It should never come to that...
But we live in a world where liberals (and sadly some of the conservatives here as well) are so darn obsessed with animals and their rights that it cheapens human life and its value. I've seen a lot of anger here directed at pro-choice Republicans, well I have the same kind of anger at pro-animal rights Republicans, because whether they realize it or not, their excessive love of animals leads to the attitudes that promote a culture of death, and helps perpetuate a society that murders a poor woman like Terri Schiavo. Think about it!
Hmmm...is that the Group W bench??...lol
"But we live in a world where liberals (and sadly some of the conservatives here as well) are so darn obsessed with animals and their rights that it cheapens human life and its value."
So very correct, animal rights, abortion, the right to kill the disabled and elderly - it all makes human life so cheap. I fear getting sick and old, maybe I should go commit some serious crime so I can safely retire in some nice prison, where liberals will love and care for me in my old age.
The value of human life is what once made this nation so great. Values, any rules - what liberals hate the most.
I like your idea, but I would also like to see the crate tossed in some deep water.
Earlier this morning I was watching the news about a man named Hacking who had been convicted of first-degree murder in Utah. What amazed me was that the sentencing guidelines there were five years to life. IMO, five years is pretty damn lenient for first degree murder.
I like seeing harsh penalties for animal cruelty but I feel we need even harsher sentences for brutal crimes committed against human beings.
