Press Caught Distorting Rumsfeld on Iraq Exit Strategy
Bloomberg New Service (and others) quote Rumsfeld as saying the U.S. has no exit strategy for Iraq. What did Rumsfeld say? "We don't have an exit strategy, we have a victory strategy."
There can be no clearer example of taking a quote out of context - and of distorting the news - than displayed by Bloomberg New Service and many other every other "news" organizations picking up on this story.
A partial quote, especially one taken so clearly out of context, is no quote at all. The story here is that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld is talking about victory in Iraq - "a victory strategy." That, it seems to us, is a much larger story.
It is not a story, however, that fits at Bloomberg or the other media outlets linked here.
In the case of Bloomberg, this is not just a case of sloppy headline writing. The reporter commits the same journalistic sin in the story lead. Have a look at the head line and the lead. Then jump to the second paragraph.

You can guess who these pecker heads wanted as their president.
Good find.
This is a telling link, from their page:

At least four stories carried the headline and some others also said the sentence. Discraceful.

I bet Rumsfeld would lecture the Press like he did over this 'geneva concention incident':
SECRETARY DONALD RUMSFELD: I am waiting for the - Im waiting for the results of the inspection and the assessments and the studies to make a judgment as to whether or not it was an aberration. And - and other people are saying that and other people are saying its systemic. And Im saying I dont know. Thats why we have all these people doing all these things is to try to find out. And I keep getting misquoted over and over and over again about the Geneva Convention. About that, about every - and I think its useful given the - the, volatility and the energy thats in this debate. I think its very useful for you folks to try your damnedest to be precise and dont repeat things that are inaccurate if you can possibly avoid it. And when you see things that are inaccurate knock them down because theres a bucket of it floating around.
How does a reporter that has the quote write a lead like they did. They knew they were misrepresenting the story. It is blantant, blantant, blatant media bias.
Pretty clear to me.............GO RUMSFELD!
Rummy is the man! As Rush has said, "We are very lucky to have him ..."
Me too! So how come they keep asking what the exit strategy is?
I'll use Rumsfeld's comment as a tagline. Thanks. :)
Good idea. Wish I had thought of that.
