OPERATION ACADEMIC FREEDOM
Capitol Rally for Academic Freedom to Highlight College Republicans annual Convention
"We have the distinct privilege to be joined by an long list of leading Republican figures who will address us at various events throughout the weekend," said Mason Harrison, a sophomore at UC Davis and the Convention Director.
Speakers include Sen. Tom McClintock, Bill Simon, Rosario Marin, David Horowitz, Ward Connerly, Assemblyman Mark Wyland, Senator Bill Morrow, former congressman Jim Rogan, actor/comedian John OHurley and possibly even Gov. Schwarzenegger.
The highlight of the weekend will be a bipartisan rally hosted by CCR on the steps of the capital. The rally will show the widespread support among students for Sen. Morrows Students Bill of Rights (SB 5).
"This important bill is intended to help end the discrimination and harassment of students that occurs on many of Californias public university and college campuses," said Senator Morrow (R-Oceanside). "The state has worked to curb hostile working environments. Now its time to end hostile learning environments. Our college students deserve a safe environment in which there is academic freedom for students, not just for professors."
David Horowitz, founder of Students for Academic Freedom and ex-liberal, will speak to the group at the Sheraton Grand before leading them in a march to the rally at the capitol at noon on Saturday, April 15th.
"We have stood by and watched the Ward Churchills speak in our own classrooms, and university administrations try to kick our clubs off of campuses," said Harrison. "We wont stand for it anymore. We demand action."
In recent years, CCR has been widely recognized as one of the most effective College Republican state federations in the nation. Michael Davidson, CCR Chairman of two years, is currently in a competitive race for Chairman of the College Republican National Committee.
The California College Republicans is the umbrella organization to over 7,000 members in over 60 College Republican chapters in the state. Our mission is to recruit, inform, train, and empower every existing and potential College Republican in the state of California. College campuses today are ideological battlegrounds for the future of America due to the liberal dominion over college faculty, curriculum, and administration. We work for the future of the Republican Party and its principles of limited government, opportunity, and freedom. Every day, we realize our obligation to preserve the Republican Party by balancing debate on Californias liberal college campuses and fulfilling our mission. We are here to influence the future now.
