COAST GUARD RECOGNIZED FOR THE OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE AID AWARD
SEATTLE - The 13th Coast Guard Districts Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Office will receive the outstanding Performance Aid Award, Friday, in the field of human performance technology.
The award is being presented by the International Society of Performance Improvement at the 43rd Annual International Performance Improvement Conference at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Office is being recognized for creating a software program used with handheld personnel digital assistants to significantly enhance the Coast Guards commercial fishing vessel boarding process. Regulatory enforcement data quality has been substantially improved since converting from paper documents to handheld devices. Use of the handheld devise also increases boarding efficiency which allows the boarding of the vessel to be done in a timelier manner.
Coast Guardsmen now use handheld devices to provide the vessels specific checklist and boarding forms to apply all specific regulations based on a vessels dynamics such as its location and operating parameters, among others.
The 13th Coast Guard District encompasses the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.
