For years the Air Force used to say that "Peace is our Business" or some such drivel.
Over time, they just got used to being a deterrent instead of a weapon.
Every Marine I've ever met, from slick-sleeved Private to many-starred General, sincerely believes in his heart of hearts that his business is WAR!!!
No ambiguity, no equivocation.
They just love to fight, and one drunken Lance Corporal with a sharpened tentstake is more deadly than any 10 Zoomies.
I have infinite respect for them all (and I'm an Army vet at that).
It's unfortunate that some people do not appreciate the sacrifices made by airmen throughout modern history. Good men who have given all so that you could sit at home and sharpen your tent peg. You should be ashamed of yourself.
LOL! Tell tha to the B-52 crew that takes out hundreds with one pass. You can't be serious. The rifleman and the airman each have their place and they each do their job. Grow up.
Tell that to the Iraqis who died during the sandstorm phase of GW2, or the Taliban who ran away after a few nights of B-52 visits, or the Iraqis who begged to surrender in GW1...
Damn! but there are a lot of stupid people! When I flew F-4s, we didn't make excuses for accidents - or anything else - but we didn't think it was a good idea to keep the F-4 until 2010.
And this Lt Col living in a dorm pays $90/month for phone & DSL...would have basic cable thrown in if I had a TV. If I want DSL, 90 is the lowest rate possible.
And budget cuts are why I've got 30% manning, and why we got 0 of 6 augmentees in our last exercise.
And the F-22 isn't 300 million a copy, and...
That would be "Peace is our Profession." And, it was the Strategic Air Command--you know--the guys that won the Cold War. Do a little research.
I bid two "Zoomies" in a Minuteman Command Module. Many, many megatons of thermonuclear death from a couple of skinny kids who spend their spare time studying for a Master's degree in Management. Those two are so deadly that our politicians have been afraid to ever unleash them.
Rambo was a Hollywood creation.
When USMC goes to war, a lot of bad guys die, a few civilians die, and some real-estate gets messed up.
When SAC goes to war, civilisations end.
