That's interesting.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The suspects, including three local activists of an out-lawed religious organization, were taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation. The locals were identified as Maulana Gul Mohammad, Maulana Bashir Ahmad and another man, known as Hafiz. Names of the Afghans could not be ascertained."

Thanks for the searches. At the moment, at least, I'm using Dogpile instead of Google. I came up with basically the same search results as you.

Since two of the three named individuals have the first name of "Maulana" I'm wondering if that is not a given name but a chosen "name" of some significance. There is a university named Maulana, prominent writers of yore, etc. by that name.
