The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

We now know more about an alleged attack that triggered an increased national threat level last summer.

That's when U.S. officials said they had uncovered a plot targeting financial institutions. The plot involved bombs, banks and British nationals.

The detail was startling, the targets enormous. They included financial buildings in Washington, New York and New Jersey.

Bomb at Afghan mosque leaves many dead

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - A bomb exploded Wednesday inside a mosque in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar and local residents said many people had been killed or wounded.

The blast occurred inside the Mullah Abdul Fayaz Mosque in the center of the city, residents said. The place of worship was named after a top Muslim leader who was killed by gunmen on Sunday in the city.

Daoud Khan, a resident near the mosque, said up to 40 people appeared to have been killed or wounded.

An Associated Press reporter at the site saw many body parts strewn around the mosque.

OPERATION NEW MARKET ENDS IN HADITHA

CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, Iraq – Coalition troops from Regimental Combat Team-2 and Iraqi Security Forces completed Operation New Market May 29. The operation was initiated in the early morning hours of May 25 and focused on disrupting insurgent activity in the Iraqi town of Haditha and the surrounding area. Approximately 1,000 Iraqi and Coalition troops participated in the operation.

New Market was launched in response to increased anti-Iraqi activity observed during the weeks preceding the operation. Coalition and ISF troops had discovered a higher-than-normal frequency of roadside bombs and noticed terrorists using outlying areas of Haditha to launch mortar attacks against Iraqi citizens, coalition forces, and utility infrastructure.

Earlier this month, violence peaked when terrorists detonated a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device next to the Haditha Hospital. In the aftermath of the ensuing firefight, Coalition forces discovered that terrorists had physically taken over portions of the hospital and constructed bunkered fighting positions. The terrorists caused major structural damage to the hospital, placing significant strain on health care in the Haditha region.

Over the course of Operation New Market, a significant number of terrorists were killed, and dozens are being held and questioned. Iraqi and coalition forces also seized numerous weapons caches and munitions, including assault rifles, machine guns, rocket propelled grenades and a buried cache consisting of over three hundred 82mm high-explosive mortar projectiles.

Coalition casualties were said to be light.

Insurgents Killed in Afghan Border Region Clashes

WASHINGTON, May 31, 2005 – Initial reports indicate up to nine insurgents were killed May 30 during three near-simultaneous attacks against Afghan and coalition positions along the Afghan-Pakistan border, military officials in the Afghan capital of Kabul reported today.
Afghan and coalition forces reported three adjacent positions near the border coming under attack by small arms and rocket-propelled grenades. Coalition aircraft responded and, in conjunction with ground forces, pursued the attackers, killing up to nine insurgents. No Afghan or coalition forces were injured or killed as a result of the attacks.

Across Afghanistan on May 27, six caches of munitions were discovered by coalition forces or turned in by Afghans, officials said.

In all, 172 cases of anti-aircraft ammunition, 130 mortars, 57 recoilless rifle rounds, 45 cases of machine gun ammunition, 17 anti-personnel mines, four rockets and three hand grenades were found.

Afghan police also discovered and turned in three Russian-manufactured machine guns and one mortar system.

Of the six caches discovered, three were the result of Afghan citizens coming forward and pointing out their location to Afghan and coalition forces, officials said.

In other military news from Afghanistan, soldiers deployed here officially became infantrymen in a historic ceremony May 28 at Camp Phoenix.

The soldiers were awarded the infantry military occupational specialty upon graduating from only the second infantry-qualification course held in a combat zone; the first was during World War II.

Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix, which trains the Afghan National Army, offered the two-week course for its soldiers from the Indiana National Guard's 76th Infantry Brigade. The graduates already held a different MOS but now have 11B, Infantry, as a secondary MOS.

Guard soldiers usually earn the infantry MOS at a Regional Military Academy in the United States, explained Command Sgt. Maj. James Gordon, Task Force Phoenix's command sergeant major. Members of the 76th include infantry instructors from one of the academies, so Phoenix's enlisted leaders asked for and were given permission to hold the course in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Joe McFarren was named the course's Honor Graduate, and Spc. Matt Estheiner received the Commandant's Award for academic success.

Forty-six Soldiers began the course. Thirty-five graduated after two demanding weeks of honing their infantry skills.

The course was conducted at Camp Phoenix, on the outskirts of Kabul, and at the Afghan National Army's Kabul Military Training Center.

The soldiers fired U.S. weapons and ANA weapons. They performed live-fire exercises and practiced Military Operations in Urban Terrain. When they were in the field, they were always aware a real enemy threat was nearby, as were live land mines.

The qualified 11B instructors assured that training and doctrine standards were maintained throughout the course, officials said.

Eleven dead in KFC riot, Al-Qaeda-linked mosque blast in Pakistan

KARACHI (AFP) - Six workers at US fast food outlet KFC died when it was torched by a mob
protesting the Al-Qaeda-linked suicide bombing of a mosque in the Pakistani city of Karachi that
killed five others, police said.

Monday's attack on the minority Shiite mosque in a middle-class neighbourhood and the ensuing riots
have triggered fears that a new wave of sectarian violence might spread across the volatile Islamic
republic.

Four employees of the restaurant, whose outlets are often targeted during outbursts of anti-American
anger in Pakistan, burned to death while another two froze to death after hiding in the walk-in cold
storage, police said. "It was a very sad scene.

When we found the bodies in the freezer one of them had a cellphone in his hand with a missed call
from his wife," Karachi fire brigade chief Azam Ali told AFP.>>>>

Zarqawi Tape To Bin Laden Indicates New Battle Plans Are Forthcoming

A new 20 minute audio tape was released yesterday by the leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, Sheikh Abu
Musab al-Zarqawi to Sheikh Osama Bin Laden, informing the head of al-Qaeda’s global operations of
several important issues. The message indicates that the audio tape has been sent directly from one
of the many battlefields inside Iraq.

In this latest message, Zarqawi confirms that plans to break the back of the cross worshippers are
going well and the enemies are dong exactly what the Mujahideen want them to do. He further refers
to a report that has been sent to Shiekh bin Laden and advises they are waiting further instructions,
indicating that something major may be in the works, clarifies his battlefield injuries and advises his
Amir that he continues to direct engagements inside Iraq on the front lines.

Zarqawi begins his statement by saying addressing Sheikh Osama bin Laden;

“From a soldier standing at the front line to his Amir (commander)”

He then goes on to dispel the myth that he has suffered serious injuries or has been killed, that even
now some mainstream new agencies continue to report .

“My beloved Amir, various news agencies have been spreading false rumors about my being seriously
wounded and receiving treatment at Ramadi hospital. The truth is what our media department
announced; I was lightly wounded. However, I am well and I continue to direct all of our operations
from the front lines from many locations in the land of the two rivers.”

Zarqawi confirms that the battles are going according to plans are going well and states he is awaiting
instructions from Shiekh bin laden, indicating that a plan is in the works.

“My beloved Amir, things could not have been better, the enemies of Allah are doing exactly what we
want them to do. Things are going according to plans. I trust that details of our operations are either
in your hand by now or on their way to you. My beloved Amir, your young soldier here (Zarqawi)
awaits your orders.”

Zarqawi also enjoins the success of the Battle of Qaim in this new tape, where US soldiers and their
collaborators paid a hefty price and were eventually forced to retreat.

“My beloved Amir, the US Marines have suffered the most disgraceful defeat at the hands of your
soldiers, the soldiers of Allah, in Al-Qaim. The 10 day Battle of Qaim will go into history as one of the
greatest Islamic battles. After ten days of fierce fighting, the US marines had to abandon their
equipment, their dead, and had to withdraw from the battlefield, licking their wounds in total disgrace.

My beloved Amir, the American commander of US forces in Qaim, General Drink Wine (a slight on the
pagan General) had arrogantly said “We will defeat them (Mujahideen) even if Muhammad and
Muhammad’s God were both with them”. We were pleased to hear him saying that because we knew
that Allah will disgrace him and will give us victory over him.

General Drink Wine could not stand the intense fire power of the Mujahideen on the ground, so he took
to the skies in a helicopter thinking that he would be safe, but Allah guided the shots from one Mujahid
that hit the General’s helicopter. The aircraft went down in flames, and so did he. “

What is most notable in this new tape is that Zarqawi speaking with a new level of assurance about
the progress being made against the Iraqi occupiers. While the true number of American casualties
continue to be swept under the carpet, it appears by all counts, including daily reports, that the
Mujahideen now united under Zarqawi's central command are gaining significant ground, progressing
exactly as planned and that a further strategies are in the works.

Absolutely chilling. The fact that Zarqawi was in Iraq before the war started plus the fact that he is OBL's head of operations there doesn't seem to register with the sheeple. The media and the terror experts don't seem to think the WOT is newsworthy these days. Instead, they choose to run with non-stories and fluff. We are still at war -- the next hit will come when and where we least expect it.

Biological agent shuts Indonesian embassy

AN envelope found at the Indonesian embassy in Canberra today has tested positive for a biological agent.

The embassy has been shut down and its 22 staff will remain in isolation for at least 48 hours after the envelope tested positive for an as-yet unidentified biological agent.

Foreign Minister Alexander Downer condemned whoever had sent the package and said the incident would not help Corby's case.

"Further analysis of the powder has tested positive as a biological agent so further testing will need to be carried out to find out what that substance actually is," Mr Downer told Parliament..........
