The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

We now know more about an alleged attack that triggered an increased national threat level last summer.

That's when U.S. officials said they had uncovered a plot targeting financial institutions. The plot involved bombs, banks and British nationals.

The detail was startling, the targets enormous. They included financial buildings in Washington, New York and New Jersey.

TBILISI, Georgia (AP) -- The FBI said Wednesday that a grenade thrown in the crowd during last week's speech by President Bush in the Georgian capital was capable of exploding and was considered a threat against the president. The statement by agent Bryan Paarmann contradicted initial reports by Georgian officials that the grenade was not capable of exploding and had been found on the ground. The grenade, wrapped in a dark handkerchief, fell about 100 feet from the podium where Bush was speaking May 10 and "simply failed to function," he said. "We consider this act to be a threat against the health and welfare of the president of the United States as well as the welfare of the multitudes of Georgian people who turned up for this event," Paarmann said. Bush spoke to tens of thousands of people in Freedom Square, a main plaza in Tbilisi. He offered strong support for Georgia's democratic development following the 2003 Rose Revolution. The crowd response was overwhelmingly favorable. Advertisement No arrests have been made in the case, and police have appealed to the public for videotapes that may contain information on the perpetrator.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "I attended the Baldwin Park event as a news videographer for an independent program. The coverage we obtained was incredible, thanks to you folks. We were particularly impressed by the fellow screaming "Zarqawi! Yes! Yes!" and "Intifada!" and "Too bad Osama bin Laden did not have a nuclear bomb to drop on that dirty Jew shithole Manhattan!" That guy was a real charmer and it's all on tape. We got broad coverage of many of the obscenities, violence, cries of "Go back to Europe!" and "Our land!", good shots of the elderly lady who was struck in the head.

We plan to air this on local television in Santa Barbara on "What's Right with America" [ http://www.kirkbytv.com ]. I expect that, despite the major media presence, the more extreme stuff won't be aired by anyone else. We've got close to two hours of footage to choose from and we will put in all the juicy bits so the viewers will understand that Mecha/Aztlan is not just about helping Chicano students get educated. Yeah, we got good closeups of the Mecha banner and racist signs too."

FYI. News conference on TV - the "person of interest" involved in the murders of 3 and the missing 2 children in Northern Idaho is in contact with law enforcement and there is no word yet on the status of the two children who are still missing.

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, May. 18 (UPI) -- Saudi Deputy Interior Minister Prince Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz said terrorism in the oil-rich kingdom has been stamped out almost completely.

Ahmed was quoted Wednesday by the Saudi Press Agency as saying, "The Saudi society is a peaceful one and aware of the dangerous evils of terrorism and rejects such abnormal tendencies."
