RIYADH, 7 May 2005 — The World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) has announced that copies of the Holy Qur’an in English and other languages are available for free distribution among non-Muslims. Those interested could contact Mohammed Abbas on mobile 0505464270 or on phone 2050000/406.

KABUL(Online): Coalition forces have asked Afghans armed militia to surrender their arms to restore peace in Afghanistan, Radio Tehran reports. Spokesman of coalition forces William Bay said that 2,000 armed militias were still present in Afghanistan. He urged Afghans to assist them in the disarmament process.
It is pertinent to mention here that during the last days Taliban have intensified attacks against the US-led coalition forces.
PESHAWAR: The NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said that the teachings and Aswa-e-Husna of Great Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) were the real guiding force for the Muslims and added that helping out the people “Khidmat-e-Khalq” was the real worship. He said the MMA government would continue for the enforcement of Islam.
He was addressing Seerat-un-Nabi Conference organized by City District Government at Zilla Council Hall, Peshawar on Friday. The chief minister said that his government has already released Rs. One crore and Rs. Seventy lac for Burn Center and establishment of Srai in Peshawar.
The Provincial Minister Hafiz Hashmat, MPAs Dr. Zakir Shah, Maulana Ibrahim Qasmi, District Nazim Azam Afridi, Naib Nazim Dr. Iqbal Khalil, Town Nazimeen Haroon Bilour, Yasin Khalil, and Mumtaz Khan, Ulema-e-Karam and a large number of members of district assembly were present at the occasion.
The chief minister said that the aim of Muslims life is to preach and spread Islam. God Almighty has blessed us with knowledge and understanding and we have to learn more about the Aswa-e-Hasana of Greate Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) through such Seerat conferences.
He said that the Seerat of our Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) was a great source of strength for us. He said that MMA’s government would continue to strive for Islamiazation of the society within its limits. His government had already taken steps to promote virtues and Islamic teachings in the society.
Helping out the orphans, the establishment of Darul Kafala, and rehabilitation centers for drug addicts, establishment of Srai and provision of free books were steps towards promoting healthy acts in the society. He said that the deserving people would get training in these centers to become useful citizen of the society. Durrani said that MMA’s government has taken visible steps for the enforcement of Shariah within the provincial limits.
However, he said, if the people of the country voted ulemas to power at federal level definitely the ulemas would bring total islamiazation in the country and all decisions would be made in the light of Quranic injunctions and Sunnah. He said that despite Pakistan was created in the name of Islam but no effort made for Islamiazation. He said that Islam provides a system that resolves all problems of the people.
The chief minister announced Rs. 10 lac each for the District Library and District Council Mosque. The chief minister also distributed prizes amongst the Naat Khawan at the occasion. District Nazim Azam Afridi and Naib Nazim Dr. Iqbal Khalil and other speakers also spoke on the occasion.
CAIRO, May 6, 2005 (IslamOnline.net) – Four Muslim candidates won British elections, in what many of the three-million strong minority hailed as a considerable victory that could lead to a more political role in the heavy-weight European country.
Muhammad Sarwar and Khalid Mahmood were re-elected. Sadiq Khan and Shahid Malik, both lawyers and activists known for their advocacy of Muslim issues, also become new MPs, according to the Web site of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) Friday, May 6.
The win was welcomed by British Muslim leaders, who hope the double presence on the 659-member House of Commons would serve causes of their minority.
“We are delighted to see that four MPs are Muslims, and hope the number of British Muslims joining the mainstream political parties would mark an increase in the future,” MCB Secretary General, Iqbal Sacranie, told IOL over the phone.
Sacranie’s MCB, the UK's representative Muslim umbrella body with over 400 affiliated organizations, mosques, charities and schools, said it would continue to work with the elected government to ensure that election promises on policy issues that affect the community are delivered.

Bolton’s initial draft read, “The United States believes that Cuba has a developmental offensive biological weapons program and is providing assistance to other rogue state programs.” It also called for international inspectors to monitor Cuba’s biological facilities.
The speech that Bolton delivered read, “The United States believes that Cuba has at least a limited offensive biological warfare research and development effort. Cuba has provided dual-use biotechnology to other rogue states. We are concerned that such technology could support [biological weapons] programs in those states. We call on Cuba to cease all [biological weapons]-applicable cooperation with rogue states and to fully comply with all of its obligations under the Biological Weapons Convention.”
Indeed, then-national security adviser Condoleezza Rice in a May 2002 television interview questioned the usefulness of such inspections in Cuba. “I will say that you can show someone a biotech lab and be assured that they’re not creating weapons of mass destruction. That’s not how biological weapons work. They’re actually very easy to conceal.”

Fantastic post Oorang. We're just sitting ducks while they wring their hands and refuse to admit there is danger lurking. Just keep up morale and keep letting those Islamic foreign nationals in. Never mind finding the ones already here whose VISAs have expired and who have disappeared into America's woodwork (who may be the very terrorists who will arrange and perform our next attack!).
It's not just Mexican illegal aliens who need to be removed from our country. When it comes to protecting our country and its citizens from potential terrorists, foreign nationals in violation of the terms of their VISAs need to be rounded up and shipped out pronto - manpower and budgetary constraints or not. There are enough laid off law enforcement personnel in this country to handle the job quite adequately. We seem to have money for meaningless pork barrel pet projects, but national security needs to take precedence in this time of war. (off soapbox).

Ethical behavior. My dad set a good example. He was the project officer at the Pentagon in charge of the PGH-1 and PGH-2 hydrofoil programs from 1966 to 1969. Another DoD contractor submitted a boat design. My dad inspected the prototype. It wouldn't float properly in the water. 55 gallon drums of water had been stashed all over the vessel to "fix" the problem. My dad refused to accept it. He endured a hellish week with U.S. senators calling our home late at night trying to get him to change his mind. His steadfast refusal to accept the junk submitted cost him a promotion to Captain in the Navy.
Sitting across the desk from my dad was the officer responsible for sending the USS Pueblo into North Korean waters with inadequate armament. My dad pleaded with the guy for a week to add armaments. He wouldn't listen. The consequences are a sad chapter in our national history. Untold is that the guy who made the flawed decision was promoted to Captain.

Soldiers Detain Suspects, Uncover Weapons Caches

WASHINGTON, May 6, 2005 – Task Force Liberty soldiers detained six individuals and confiscated a number of weapons during a raid against weapons dealers southwest of Tuz today, military officials reported.
Acting on a tip from Iraqi citizens, soldiers from the Tennessee Army National Guard's 278th Regimental Combat Team detained the suspected weapons dealers and confiscated three rocket-propelled grenade launchers, one improvised explosive device, three sniper rifles and plastic explosives. The detainees were taken to a coalition forces base for questioning.
Task Force Liberty soldiers also detained three suspected terrorists today during raids south of Bayji. Two of the individuals are suspected of being members of a cell responsible for mortar attacks in the Tikrit area.
Officials also reported today that a tip by local Iraqi citizens led soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division's Task Force Baghdad, who were patrolling in west Baghdad, directly to a weapons cache and two suspected terrorists May 4.
Local residents invited the soldiers, who were on routine patrol, into a house to show them several computers, pagers and cordless phones with base stations and bundles of wires that could be used to detonate bombs. Two individuals in the home were detained for questioning.
In northwest Baghdad the same day, Task Force Baghdad soldiers discovered a weapons cache containing 138 rockets, 91 mortar rounds, five guided missiles and nine artillery rounds. The soldiers also found 200 pounds of plastic explosives, 200 pounds of gunpowder, hand grenades and numerous other bomb making materials.
"Over the past 10 days there have been a total of nine weapons caches found," said Col. David Bishop, commander of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Armor Division. "At least 1,000 different explosive items have been seized. That's 300 to 500 roadside bombs and car bombs that the enemy will not be able to make."
Later that day, a joint patrol of Iraqi army soldiers and U.S. forces uncovered another weapons cache hidden in the basement of a house under construction in central Baghdad. The soldiers found one bulletproof vest, one AK-47 assault rifle, one sniper rifle and 39 rounds of ammunition.
In other May 4 combat operations, a U.S. patrol in south Baghdad caught a terrorist red-handed placing a roadside bomb on a major supply route. The insurgent tried to flee, but U.S. soldiers caught him and took him into custody for questioning.
After hitting a roadside bomb in west Baghdad, Task Force Baghdad soldiers stopped a truck that tried to flee the scene. The driver tested positive for traces of explosive residue and was taken into custody for questioning. No soldiers were injured in incident.

Opium, Cash Seized in Afghan Province

WASHINGTON, May 6, 2005 – U.S. officials at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, said the Ghazni provincial police seized 237 kilograms of opium May 4 and arrested four individuals involved in drug trafficking. The traffickers were also carrying large sums of Afghan, Pakistani, U.S., United Arab Emirates and Kuwaiti currency.
Gen. Abdul Rahman Sarjang, chief of the Ghazni provincial police force, reported he had been offered a bribe of $15,000 to release the individuals and the drugs, but he refused.
Ghazni provincial Gov. Haji Asadullah said he was discussing who would destroy the drugs with the Ministry of the Interior. He said the destruction of the drugs would be recognized in a ceremony to symbolize the efforts of Rahman and the Ghazni police to rid the province of illegal drugs.
