I've had to uninstall and then reinstall my Norton Internet Security 2004, a total of four times in the last two weeks. I am at my wits end, which for me, isn't too far a journey. Any help on what could possibly be wrong would be greatly appreciated.
In you post #77, is that Castro?
I don't have a Norton, I'm a she, I have a... nevermind. I'll pass the message to my hubby though. lol
Ahhhh, you're an optimist I see.
Yes, Lucas electrics were notorious.
BTW, a close friend had a Norton 750 Ranger (an updated P11A) at the same time I was riding the Commando "S". I bought a Harley a couple of years later, when I was discharged from the Army.
Disconnect from the Internet to isolate your system
Try to completely deinstall Norton Internet Security 2004 via Norton own deinstall utilty..to do this you may need to run the install or even reinstall Norton to get a clean deinstall
Get your Norton Internet Security 2004 cd and start the install to see if it looks for previous version or ask if you want to repair or deinstall...reinstall and then deinstall if you need too but get Norton out and then get your system stabilized after (reboot (cold it can't hurt)several times, check for issues ... but if your system is stabilized you should come up the same on each boot with no new issues
Now get back online and go to http://www.trendmicro.com/en/home/us/personal.htm first and run Housecall to check for virus (bet you will not have any but you will have spyware
Then go to http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/downloads/default.mspx ...this page has links to most places you want to go to get what you need (you can also go to www.download.com for these)
Get and run all three anti spyware Lavasoft Ad-aware,No charge,Spybot Search & Destroy (S&D),No charge Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta)No charge(be sure there up to date) and clean out any spyware
Then get Windows Update and Office Update ...
Finally you ready to reinstall a antivirus I personally like Trend Micro PC-cillin and its $25 for the year via the Microsoft link (also in stores most antivirus will have rebates to the point of being fee if you have previous version of other antivirus
That my preference but I had customers that have had good luck with Norton and the other antivirus
Tophat from 1980 on: building, installing, repairing,& troubleshooting computer systems from Mainframes and minis to pc and servers from little LAN to massive global WAN in all flavor of protocols,ATM,Frame,IP, x25, etc.
Sounds like you got a Mcaffee!
Hope it is virus-free!
1. Use Trendmicro online free scanner.
2. Do not use outlook express for email--OR just never open attachments.
3. Do not go to nasty sites.
I will never run norton again.
I'll have a look see at Trendmicro.I never open mail from people I don't know. And I never go to nasty sites. Well, I did once by mistake. I was looking for articles on slavery. I guess I wasn't specific enough and an S&M site came up. I high-tailed it outta there the second I saw the whips.
Yes, which is another reason I refuse to buy Nortons.
I'll never use Norton again. I've been burned one too many times by them.
Get rid of Norton.
Use this - it's free and more thorough.

Just pick "Scan Now, It's Free" and follow the prompts.
I've read a lot pro and con concerning McAfee. Strange how it works good for some and not so good for others. I'm just very unlucky when it comes to computers. If a certain program worked excellent for everyone who had it, you could probably lay down a bet that it would give me problems. Murphys law runs and rules me...which is why I don't gamble. :-)
Personally, I never cared for Nortons. Good suspension, handles well on curves but poor engine design.
Try a BMW.
I haven't had any problems with IE.
Is MS and Firefox compatible?
Seems like since Gates became a Gazillionaire, he couldn't care less about the quality of his software.
Sorry for the confusion.
That's ok. I know nothing about computers. I'm the type that should always be at arms length from them. I touch them...they mess up.
I spread confusion where ever I go. It's my lot in life.
Regarding Lucas, you got that right. Being a glutton for punishment I had a 69 BSA Lightning 650 and a 64 Triumph Spitfire. Arrrgh. What awful electronics.
But the BSA was such a nice handling bike. The Japanese bikes at the time just didn't have it. I never rode with Nortons, but did pretty well against my buddy that rode a Triumph Bonneville.
I have no problem running Internet Explorer and Firefox, sometimes at the same time. Firefox seems to be faster on ebay, but not on all sites.
I have a British made, Lee-Enfield .303 if that is any consolation.
LOL
