The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will begin enforcing a ban, beginning today, on all types of lighters from the secure areas of airports and onboard airplanes. The policy is in response to a requirement in the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004. TSA announced the ban in February and set aside 45 days to educate the traveling public about the ban.
"Terrorists constantly seek innovative means to cause harm, and this requires appropriate risk mitigation," said Rear Adm. David M. Stone, USN (Ret.), Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for TSA. "This policy provides another layer of protection in TSA's overall security plan."
All lighters are now banned from sterile areas beyond security checkpoints at airports. This includes, for example, butane, absorbed-fuel, electric/battery-powered and novelty lighters.

I celebrate my 2nd airport-free anniversary at the end of this month, and things like this make me so happy that I have completely freed myself of the flying habbit.
And the airlines wonder why they are losing their butts?

They're not banned - they just have to buy two seats.

And the airlines wonder why they are losing their butts? They're losing their butts because of the unions. Look at Southwest and their profits. Let the whole union riddled industry collapse, then Southwest can buy them and provide cheap, profitable service.
To: Gunslingr3
Look at Southwest and their profits. Southwest is the Wal-Mart of the airline industry, so the unions will start trying to destroy them like they are trying to destroy Wal-Mart before too long.

TSA can't even ban terrorists. Like they are gonna catch all the lighters? Come on. They're busy chasing Norwegian grandmas.
Oh My God!! Make more rules, make more stupid, useless, unenforceable rules, you turds!

Stupid! I do not understand why you cannot at least put lighters in the checked baggage. If it is in checked luggage you cannot get to it and it accomplishes the same thing doesnt it? Idiots!

Make more rules, make more stupid, useless, unenforceable rules, you turds!Maybe the GOP controlled White House or GOP controlled Congress could do something about this... Naw, too busy borrowing more money from China to spend on crap like the TSA...

The first airline that offers free lighters at baggage claim will gain more good than a million dollars of advertising!
