BANGKOK, Thailand - Thailand plans to upgrade hygiene in its public toilets to meet international standards as it prepares to host the World Toilet Summit next year, a health official said Wednesday.
"Toilets are very important for the country's image in the eyes of visitors," said Somyos Chareonsak, a senior official of the Public Health Ministry.
The conference is to be held in May 2006.
The first summit, organized by the World Toilet Organization, was held in 2001 in Singapore. China, where toilet facilities are often in need of upgrades, hosted one last year.
Topics discussed at the meetings include toilet design and technology, toilet management and hygiene and energy-saving measures.

I thought the Clinton Library got that one this year?
Did you know that behind the Clinton Library(a big trailor) they have an outhouse so Bill's relatives will feel right at home when visiting?

The thing that gets me when I travel abroad are the countries that have toilets which are designed so the poop is held in the air on a ledge until you flush to wash it off. This allows the maximum odor to be developed. Do they do this so they can conduct examinations afterwards??? Hopefully someone at these meetings will talk about having toilets in which the poop goes immediately into the water.

You would think they would hold this summit, where else, but Flushing Meadows, New York.
Or Fresh Kills, New York

I would like a list of the members of the US Congress, their staff and employees of federal agencies that are in attendance at this conference. I'm sure we would be shocked.

FYI: Millington's
"Lavatories of the World (L.O.T.W.)" is both amusing and disgusting.
For reference, this is the same Millington who does the "Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About" webpage/blog.
