MINUTEMEN MULLING HILLARY INVITE (YIKES!!!)
NewsMax ^ | 4/13/05

Posted on 04/13/2005 8:22:55 AM PDT by areafiftyone

The lead organizer for the border patrol group the Minutemen said Tuesday that he wants to invite New York Sen. Hillary Clinton to come to the Arizona-Mexico border this month to review their operation, which has so far netted the arrests of more than 300 illegal immigrants.

"We're thinking of inviting Hillary Clinton," Minuteman founder James Gilchrist told ABC Radio host Sean Hannity, adding that he'd already looked into flight arrangements to Arizona for the former first lady and could provide appropriate security.

Gilchrist's decision to invite Clinton was likely prompted by her tough comments on border security - remarks that place her sharply to the right of the Bush administration on the issue.

"I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants," she announced in Feb. 2003 radio interview, adding that "people have to stop employing illegal immigrants."

"I mean, come up to Westchester, go to Suffolk and Nassau counties," Clinton railed. "Stand on the street corners in Brooklyn or the Bronx; you're going to see loads of people waiting to get picked up to go do yard work and construction work and domestic work."

"Clearly, we have to make some tough decisions as a country," the top Democrat urged.

In comments last November, the likely 2008 presidential nominee blasted the Bush administration for turning a blind eye to the problems at the border.

"I don't think that we have protected our borders or our ports or provided our first responders with the resources they need, so we can do more and we can do better," Clinton told the Fox News Channel.

"There's technology now available," she noted. "There are some advanced radar systems. There are biometric and other kinds of identification systems that we've been very slow to deploy and unwilling to spend money on."

Gilchrist said his patrol operation is open to Clinton and anyone else who wants to review its progress, explaining, "When I first launched this in October I insisted that we have open season for all law enforcement to come in and do whatever they want - and the same with the media."

And he pointed out the obvious political benefit for any politician who wants to lend support, noting, "For every [Minuteman] down here we've probably got a hundred thousand supporters across the country."

Gilchrist said the Minutemen have already helped round up scores of illegals.

"About 300," he told Hannity. "And about 40 of those were from an aerial observer who was up six hours yesterday in his aircraft."

I like the phrase, ethnic animus, for all sorts of reasons. It tells me and others so much about you that you believe national security, law and order, and the Constitution is about that and that you didn't refer to the law and order types as "racist". Borders, language, and culture my good fellow as this is what elections will be about going forward.

I think the GOP grassroots is strong. The ones drinking Potomac water, however, are in danger of Mad-Law Disease.

It doesn't have to be Hillary. Democrats are stupid, but they also hate losing, and they'll convince whoever they have to that they are more culturally in line with the country to win power back.

The fact is, when you put conservatives in charge they act as if they are still the minority party. There is no switch you can throw to put them into majority mode. The press is no longer a viable excuse as it was in the past.

They should be running the table, and doing LBJ style arm twisting to do it if need be.

The GOP is mostly a bunch of patsies and panzies who could not fight their grandmothers if they had to. Shame on them for wasting so much of our time volunteering, etc etc

Yeah really you(a so-called fervent GOP supporter) could have spent your time better spouting ethnic animus.

Go to the hillary campaign, looks like she is signing up volunteers.

Oh yes, let's return to those halcyon days of the LBJ tyrannical Seante reign.

It got him the Presidency, but it lost a war that cost over 50,000 American live, due to that tyrannical ego, IMO.

Can't you just see her out there with sunglasses and sunblock on her nose and a hat with a giant bill that sticks out too far. Man, I just ate.

For your information, I spent my personal time for a week down in Florida trying to help out and do my part. So go stick a fork in it.

If the GOP refuses to at least put up the appearance of giving something to their base, I assure you, the hordes or volutneers simply won't be there next time.

Why don't you go here, http://www.rightalk.com and listen to an hour long interview with the Minutemen rep and find out what they're doing directly from them.

Perhaps I will. However, do you suppose that the President heard that interview? I didn't even know it was there until you told me.

As I said, given how the media presented these guys and the rash statements of many on this forum, I rather had the impression they were vigilantes as well. I am not saying I was right, just that that was my initial impression.

I really don't think they've been at all like vigilantes but I'm very disappointed with them over Hillary.

They just about had me convinced that they were doing a lot of good, and now I'm back to think they may be flakes again.

Do you mean to tell me that you think this woman is seriously concerned about the border? Do you see what you're writing? After her husband, his vice-president, and much of her party just allowed hundreds of people in over the border, just in time for election, and she said nothing then, you trust her on this? This is insane, or you are! Good Grief!

Don't you remember when during the 2000 election, a woman and her daughter, both not able to legally vote yet, reported getting a letter from Bill Clinton telling them to go out and vote, and giving them a voter registration card? Obviously, you don't, or you never heard about it, because it happened! Go figure, and when you do, come back at us/me, and tell me all about this shameless chameleon, then how and why you prefer her to our president!

I really make an effort to stay away from immigration threads, but this comment about inviting Hillary caught my attention.

Someone commented that the President should expect this since he "pimp-slapped" the Minutemen.

However, when the President offered his idea for a solution, these people didn't offer rational discussion. Instead, they accused the President of DESIRING illegal immigration and being in bed with Vicente Fox. It works both ways...why should the President listen to them?

I actually think an organized "coast-watcher" approach is not a bad thing, if the people participating are screened. These folks are not, and I hope no one gets hurt while this is going on.

That's your opinion. Had a republican been there, they would have decided to go too. LBJ lost his nerve and we lost - it had nothing - nothing to do with his tactics in the Senate.

What! Vincente Fox being to the right of Bush? Wasn't he the one who was trying to get Bush on board about open borders? Are some people on here going nuts?

I don't know, stay tuned to the next "immigration thread" for the answer!/sarcasm

Are you sure you get sarcasm?

Do you really think that my left testicle has an opinion on the subject?
