The lead organizer for the border patrol group the Minutemen said Tuesday that he wants to invite New York Sen. Hillary Clinton to come to the Arizona-Mexico border this month to review their operation, which has so far netted the arrests of more than 300 illegal immigrants.
"We're thinking of inviting Hillary Clinton," Minuteman founder James Gilchrist told ABC Radio host Sean Hannity, adding that he'd already looked into flight arrangements to Arizona for the former first lady and could provide appropriate security.
Gilchrist's decision to invite Clinton was likely prompted by her tough comments on border security - remarks that place her sharply to the right of the Bush administration on the issue.
"I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants," she announced in Feb. 2003 radio interview, adding that "people have to stop employing illegal immigrants."
"I mean, come up to Westchester, go to Suffolk and Nassau counties," Clinton railed. "Stand on the street corners in Brooklyn or the Bronx; you're going to see loads of people waiting to get picked up to go do yard work and construction work and domestic work."
"Clearly, we have to make some tough decisions as a country," the top Democrat urged.
In comments last November, the likely 2008 presidential nominee blasted the Bush administration for turning a blind eye to the problems at the border.
"I don't think that we have protected our borders or our ports or provided our first responders with the resources they need, so we can do more and we can do better," Clinton told the Fox News Channel.
"There's technology now available," she noted. "There are some advanced radar systems. There are biometric and other kinds of identification systems that we've been very slow to deploy and unwilling to spend money on."
Gilchrist said his patrol operation is open to Clinton and anyone else who wants to review its progress, explaining, "When I first launched this in October I insisted that we have open season for all law enforcement to come in and do whatever they want - and the same with the media."
And he pointed out the obvious political benefit for any politician who wants to lend support, noting, "For every [Minuteman] down here we've probably got a hundred thousand supporters across the country."
Gilchrist said the Minutemen have already helped round up scores of illegals.
"About 300," he told Hannity. "And about 40 of those were from an aerial observer who was up six hours yesterday in his aircraft."
Uh dude, the invite was spoken of. Like I said before on this thread, ethnic animus has no boundries, it makes anti-gun control, anti-medical control, anti-abortion people do a monica, if the above politician(hillary) says 3 or 4 positive words, lay prostrate at the altar of that politician(hillary).
The Minutemen are STUPID if they think that 1. Hillary really is interested and 2. This will change the President's mind.
If you aren't falling for Hillary's spin, good for you. But if you think this is a canny political ploy by the Minutemen, you need to reassess things.
By the way, who ARE these people, really? Do you know any of them personally?
I've said this before: She's going to throw the abortionists and the weak-national-defenders off the platform before 2006. It's going to happen, and only she can do it.
Conservatives have left the border issue open like a weak flank, they are spending like trophy wives with no prenup, they are not going to challenge closed shop laws, and they are going to cave on filibustering judicial nominees and social security reform.
2006 may end up really sucking for conservatives if this all comes to pass.
Conservatives have left the border issue open like a weak flank, they are spending like trophy wives with no prenup, they are not going to challenge closed shop laws, and they are going to cave on filibustering judicial nominees and social security reform.
Oh my let's give up and not show the light of day to hillary's lies.
JMO, you are part of those on FR, who are perpetuating the hillary myth.
So why aren't they loyal to Tom Tancredo? He may be running against Hillary in 2008 and the Minutemen want to give her a platform?
Somebody hasn't thought this through.
"Considering that the Minutemen were on TV talking brashly about how they were going to round up illegals and brandishing weaponry, I don't fault Bush for calling them vigilantes."
I heard their leader talk on Hannity more than once. He didn't say all that. Where did their leader say that?
"They looked like vigilantes to me, too."
I'm sorry if they look scary.
"The Minutemen are STUPID if they think that 1. Hillary really is interested and 2. This will change the President's mind."
They don't expect anything from either of them. They are self-reliant. And that's what's driving DC nuts-- people that DO rather than BEG.
"If you aren't falling for Hillary's spin, good for you. But if you think this is a canny political ploy by the Minutemen, you need to reassess things."
I don't think either. I think it was inevitable.
"By the way, who ARE these people, really? Do you know any of them personally?"
I only wish I could. I'd be there myself, if I could afford it. FReegards....
Isn't her husband the one who gave amnisty to millions? Suddenly she's AGAINST illegal immigration? What does that mean, that she'll just wave a wand and make them all legal?
"So why aren't they loyal to Tom Tancredo?"
I hope they are. Thank God Trancedo went there. A fine representative.
"Somebody hasn't thought this through."
I think that's what they're doing. And as I pointed out, the support of Hannity and Rush could be undermined if Hillary chimes in. Something else they should consider, isn't it?
But I don't run the Minutemen. And I think it's absurd to expect them to be loyal to the GOP when the GOP president pimp-smacks them.
"Isn't her husband the one who gave amnisty to millions? Suddenly she's AGAINST illegal immigration?"
Very good point.
But if someone smacks you around, should you fawn at his feet like a dog?
Why does this have to be an "either or issue? I see no problem inviting any/all interested parties down.
I live in lower Westchester. The area is swarming with illegals all over the place. I think Hillary is smart and will really get traction with this issue.
If the GOP refuses to do anything, them F'em.
Didn't say anything about them being loyal to the GOP. They SHOULD be loyal to Tancredo who would be running against Hillary.
If the Minutemen aren't loyal to Tom then I don't think much of them.
This is going to be fun. I just hope and pray that she doesn't wear shorts! For the love of God please don't let that happen.
It's not as clear cut as how you are painting it: either/or. A powerful temptation:
Former first lady: big name.
Current president: big name.
Trancredo: statesman who RICHLY DESERVES big name.
I won't ditch America's border if the Minutemen make the wrong choice, not even for Trancredo. I'd try to persuade the GOP toward damage control.
"If the GOP refuses to do anything, them F'em."
We need to oust the current GOP leadership in the 2008 primary. They are brilliant, but this issue is too important.
Something from the Safari collection perhaps?
"This is going to be fun. I just hope and pray that she doesn't wear shorts! For the love of God please don't let that happen."

Good thing that a lot of the Border Ladies look good. Men left alone in the desert start seeing mirages.
The GOP is mostly a bunch of patsies and panzies who could not fight their grandmothers if they had to. Shame on them for wasting so much of our time volunteering, etc etc.
"Oh you mean that girl on another website, that accused Jim Robinson of running a mail order bride business."
I didn't see her. But I bet there are some hotties out there. FReegards....
