The 'rats' are doing to Delay. .. what they did to Newt. Repubs better not let this happen. . .and Delay would be the best 'Speaker' to replace Hastert.

All these whining Demrat's. . .who claim a higher standard necessary. . .are the same who stood beside Clinton for their WhiteHouse 'solidarity photo' post his Impeachment.

' Repubs just MOVE on. . .ride over them. . .and DO NOT look back.'

And if a few of our own. . .are in the way. . .so be it.

To Be Absolutely Frank
The Truth About DeLay
By Ben Stein
Published 4/12/2005 1:05:27 AM
http://www.spectator.org/dsp_article.asp?art_id=8018

Herewith a few truths about Tom DeLay, the embattled GOP Majority Leader in The House of Representatives.

1.) Tom DeLay is morally probably the highest level public servant I have ever met. With virtually no political gain to be had from so doing, he has been the most enthusiastic supporter of Israel in the U.S. Congress. He has stood with Israel against terrorism and international anti-Semitism without reservation or fear. This is a man with more moral decency in his little finger than his detractors have in their whole bodies.

2.) The attack against him in the Texas courts are an outrageous -- but sadly emblematic -- Democrat attempt to use the judicial system to defeat the electoral process. The DA who is tormenting him is the same one who made up an indictment of Kay Bailey Hutchison out of whole cloth to try to reverse the results of a solid electoral victory by the Republican party in Texas.

If this kind of deviltry works, we can expect local Democrat district attorneys to routinely indict any Republican who is successfully turning out the electorate for the Republican Party. No elected official, no bureaucrat, is more unaccountable than an out of control, hatchet job prosecutor, and this is just what we are seeing at work against Tom DeLay.

3.) The very fact that the Mainstream Media are so desperately struggling to smear Tom DeLay is proof positive of what a good job he is doing at leveling the electoral playing field.

4.) If we throw him to the wolves, we are betraying a dear friend of the party, and a good man -- and allowing a vicious dirty trick through the judicial system to subvert the Constitution.

5.) Tom DeLay's comments about a judiciary that sanctioned the torture murder of Terri Schiavo and how it has to be brought to account was a brave and entirely sensible approach to an issue that dismays and frightens many Americans. His comments are yet another sign of what a fine patriot this man is.

6.) He has been there for us, and we need to be there for him.

Thanks for your post at #19...

If a party can be stampeded by phony charges and a run of shoddy stories in whorish newspapers into dumping their most effective congressional leader, I wouldn't give 2 cents for their near-term future. A party that would voluntarily cut off its own testicles and FedEx them to their opponent as a trophy, is not likely to manifest any regenerative powers. That's the thing about losing those organs.

Tom’s Travails

The Tom DeLay drumbeat goes on. So desperate are the New York Times and Washington Post for DeLay copy that they have begun recycling old stories on their front pages. Michael Isikoff is reduced to reporting hearsay from Jack Abramoff's lunches. And Old Unreliable, Rep. Chris Shays, has predictably called for DeLay's ouster, making him once again a harbinger for the media of "dissension in the GOP ranks." There's little sign that the Majority Leader's agony will end soon.

Conservatives must be willing to make cold-blooded calculations about their leaders, since the cause is bigger than any one man. But DeLay has not committed any crimes or ethics violations that merit his ouster. Nor has his effectiveness been so diminished that the Republican caucus would be better off without him — even if he has sustained damage from the drip-drip of allegations against him.

The chief reason the Democrats and the press are ganging up on DeLay is obvious: He has been an effective leader of the House Republican majority, and they hope to do damage to the GOP caucus and agenda by taking him out, on the model of former Speaker Newt Gingrich. After all, many of the offenses DeLay is being accused of — taking foreign trips funded by outside groups, attending events with lobbyists — are committed by every congressman on Capitol Hill.

There are four sets of allegations against DeLay, and it is worth going through each one, since the political campaign against DeLay depends on piling up as many charges as possible to create the impression of irredeemable corruption. The first has to do with foreign trips.

One was a trip to Seoul funded by the Korea-U.S. Exchange Council, a group that registered as a foreign agent days before the trip. It is against House rules to accept trips from a registered foreign agent. But there was no way for DeLay to know the group had registered, and other Republicans and Democrats — including a Nancy Pelosi staffer — had gone on similar trips sponsored by the group. DeLay disclosed the trip to the Ethics Committee, a sign he believed it was within the rules.

Two other trips, including one to Russia, came courtesy of a conservative outfit called the National Center for Public Policy Research. It appears that the bills for these travels were indirectly picked up by gambling interests or other unsavory characters associated with the disgraced GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who accompanied DeLay on the trips. It's against the rules for a congressman to accept trips paid for by a lobbyist. But DeLay says he thought the center really was paying for the trips. It is unfair for journalists to pick through every detail of the financing of these trips years later, then imply that DeLay should have been known at the time all the details that their later investigations uncover.

The second set of allegations was handled by the House Ethics Committee last year. The committee dismissed two charges made by outgoing Democratic representative Chris Bell having to do with DeLay's relationship with an energy company called Westar and his staff's contacting of the Federal Aviation Administration when Texas Democrats were fleeing the state by air to avoid voting on a redistricting plan. It also dismissed a charge having to do with DeLay's strong-arming of Republican representative Nick Smith to try to get him to vote for the prescription-drug bill. The committee did warn DeLay to be more careful, the "admonishment" that has played in the media as an official sanction, which it wasn't.

“DeLay’s supporters cringe
to see sleazy insiders like
Jack Abramoff profiting from
their relationship with him.”

The third set involves a case in Texas. A Democratic prosecutor has indicted associates of DeLay for alleged fundraising abuses related to a PAC founded by DeLay, Texans for a Republican Majority. The prosecutor has a reputation for politicized indictments, including a meritless one years ago against Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison. No evidence presented at trial has directly tied DeLay to any of the alleged illegal practices at the PAC, which involved funneling corporate contributions to Texas legislative candidates in violation of state campaign-finance law.

Finally, thanks to a recycled New York Times story last week, a controversy has erupted around payments to DeLay's wife and daughter from his political machine. Having relatives on the payroll, however, is not an unusual Capitol Hill practice, and is considered ethical so long as they do real jobs. There's no suggestion that Delay's wife and his daughter — who runs his congressional campaigns — are being paid for no-show jobs.

Conservative groups have rallied around DeLay, as they should when he is being unfairly attacked. But the Majority Leader should know that even if conservatives reject the Democratic effort to smear and oust him, they are disillusioned to find Republican leaders now so comfortable with the perks of power. You can always choose your friends, and DeLay's supporters cringe to see sleazy insiders like Jack Abramoff profiting from their relationship with him. It is notable that DeLay's lobbying of Representative Smith was part of an effort to pass a massive new entitlement that not too long ago would have turned DeLay's stomach.

By all means, let's defend Tom DeLay, but let's also hope that we will see more of the old conservative insurgent Tom DeLay we used to know.

The drip, drip, drip of weak knee's Republicans afraid to stand up to the propaganda of the desperate liberals in Congress to regain the majority and fight back against the negative stories about House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.

Rush covered this topic very well yesterday for those who were listening to his show. At best, it is the pitch black liberal pot calling the conservative kettle Grey/Black.

NY Times Tried To Recruit Bob Livingston for Anti-DeLay Op-Ed
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com

Novak Reports NYTimes Went Fishing for Op-Ed Asking DeLay to Quit

Columnist Robert Novak revealed on Monday that the New York Times editorial page went "fishing" for an op-ed from a prominent Republican to call for House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's resignation. A colleague of former Congressman Bob Livingston, who was in line to replace Newt Gingrich, quoted Times editorial page staffer Tobin Harshaw as saying "we are seeking those who would go on the record or state for the good of the party he (DeLay) should step aside."

Novak suggested the "remarkable case of that august newspaper fishing for an op-ed piece makes it appear part of a calculated campaign to bring down the single most powerful Republican in Congress." It also would demonstrate how the editorial and news pages work in concert: The editorial page creates news which is then touted on the front page.

...........It was two full years ago, for instance, that the Los Angeles Times reported that Nevada's U.S. Sen. Harry Reid is "in a class by himself" when it comes to pushing legislation that benefits his sons and sons-in-law financially, to the tune of millions of dollars.

"In the last four years alone," wrote the Times, "their firms have collected more than $2 million in lobbying fees from special interests that were represented by the kids and helped by the senator in Washington. So pervasive are the ties among Reid, members of his family and Nevada's leading industries and institutions that it's difficult to find a significant field in which such a relationship does not exist."

Mr. Reid is now the Democrats' official leader in the Senate.

And the Times reported that Reid is far from being alone: "At least 17 senators and 11 members of the House have children, spouses or other close relatives who lobby or work as consultants, most in Washington. ... Many are paid by clients who count on the related lawmaker for support."

This year's Democratic campaign to destroy Tom DeLay, aided and abetted by an eager national media, would have far more credibility if Mr. Reid and others were held to the same standards.

They are delusional.

Unless they got something on Delay and it's quite evident they don't, he survives and is stronger for having been targeted without merit.

The Reps in the House like him. He could very well be Speaker something that frightens the Dems enormously. The only thing that could derail that is if Reps throw him overboard because they are scared of the press. I think the House Reps are made of stronger material than those in the Congress however.
