Unbelievably, yes. I live in rural Georgia, about 20,000 in our county, and a detective at the sheriff's office was telling me about the cases he's investigated just in the last year involving this and similar Nigerian mafia internet crimes. Usually elderly people who end up losing substantial portions of their nest eggs. It's really sad. He told me about one old man who had been ripped off three times and lost in the neighborhood of $30,000 before he realized what was happening.

Like I said, mostly old people. Another one that's interesting is Nigerians go on date chat rooms and establish 'relationships' with women posing as american men. The detective told me about a woman who gave a guy her address and he was having stolen property shipped to her address. I don't remember the scam, exactly, but the detective traced it back to internet accounts in Nigeria.

I have never laughed harder setting in front of a computer.
I usually reply how interested I am and please tell me more information etc. etc. etc... make them write detailed letters just to waste as much of their time as possible until they are getting mad and saying "you are a liar and cannot be trusted..." - it is so funny.
Then I reply saying yes at least I am a liar having fun while they are a liar trying to rob people.
I figure while I am wasting their time they are not ripping off someone else.
I got this idea from a person wo had a web site showing how he talked several of these scammers into sending a picture of themnselves with a shoe pressed against their ear with a sign that says "freepers rule, DUers drool"- he had actual photographs.

If you will just be so kind as to remit the shipping and customs fee's back to the sender immediately, then wait for his check to clear.
