WASHINGTON, April 11 (AP) - The Senate on Monday confirmed the first of President Bush's second-term judicial nominees as senators continued to argue over Democrats' blocking the White House's most prized candidates.
On a 95-to-0 vote, the Senate confirmed Paul Crotty as a federal district judge for New York State. With Mr. Crotty's confirmation, Mr. Bush has put 205 trial and appellate judges on the federal court since becoming president.
Democrats have blocked 10 of Mr. Bush's 52 appeals court nominations through filibuster threats, while allowing Republicans to confirm 34 others.
They have said they plan to keep blocking those 10 if they are brought up for confirmation again. In return, the Republicans have threatened to change the Senate rules to ban filibusters of judicial nominees.
Here come de Judge!.....

=====
Yeah, the key anti-Marxist, patriotic, conservative judges who believe that the Constitution should be upheld, and that judges DO NOT legislate from the bench...
Why can't we take KKKBYRD at his word as the historian of the Senate? there is NO CONSTITUTIONAL REQUIREMENT for a SENATE VOTE!.......
The first of the "contested" ones will come to the floor in the nesx week or so, that's when the fun starts. It's looking good.

I'm still of the opinion that a nominee is AUTOMATICALLY a lock unless the Senate VOTES to SAY NO!.......
"allowing" is an amusing choice of word. I'd like to see the Republicans grow a pair of balls and make these obstructionist 'rats TRULY FILIBUSTER...make them talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk.
And then I'd like to see the Republicans remind America that is was the Democrats who also filibustered civil rights legislation.
Any doubt as to why this one made it thru? This from 2004:
Senator Clinton Praises New York Judicial Nominee
November 16, 2004
Calling it an absolute delight to testify on his behalf before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton enthusiastically endorsed the nomination of Buffalo Native Paul Crotty to a seat on the federal bench. The Committee, today, considered Crottys nomination to the bench in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
"Paul has distinguished himself in both the public and private sectors, Senator Clinton said. She cited his private sector work as a practicing attorney and as Group President for New York and Connecticut for Verizon Communications. Crotty joined the company in 1997.
Senator Clinton also highlighted Crottys service on the Lower Manhattan Development board, which was created after the September 11th terrorist attacks to help spur the recovery of Lower Manhattan. In serving in that capacity, Paul has embodied that tremendous New York spirit and determination.
Byrd is correct about that. Silence can be "consent."
Yes, that term "allowing" jumped out at me as well. Allowing them to come to a vote is more accurate.
You, me and Byrd. What a triumvirate.
This is scary. I want to know more about this person.
We need to at least TRY IT and if they get upset then just give them the BYRD!.......
Ah yes, the Senate war continues ...
confirmations used to be unanimous, or nearly so. That ended when Teddy "Borked" the process
And, this is headline news.
This is his resume. Not very informative, though. Most recently, he was the president of Verizon.

He was originally nominated in 2004 but did not make it out of committee. Re-nominated this year.
Thanks!
I agree. Impossible to glean his judicial philosophy from the resume.
