Strimling proposes assault-weapon ban in Maine

AUGUSTA - A state senator wants Maine to activate an assault-weapons ban similar to a federal ban that expired in September.

Sen. Ethan Strimling's, D-Portland, proposal would ban manufacturing, transferring and possession of assault weapons in Maine. It would also ban .50-caliber rifles, but exempt antique weapons.

Strimling wants to give Maine law enforcement leeway to develop a system to identify new assault weapons and add them to the list.

Strimling said military-grade weapons are unnecessary and dangerous and he calls his bill a common sense approach to gun control. Maine Citizens Against Handgun Violence supports his bill.

Ethan Strimling is a poster boy for the loopy left. He carries a lot of weight with the lefties in the Maine Statehouse, and the liberals at the Portland newspapers adore the guy.

oh...how sweet , a Harvard grad and Juilliard School as a theater student. He surely is such an authority
of that which he speaks of. How lucky Maine folks are....

Would that we were all so fortunate as to have wise and noble Julliard students to advise us about our home defense needs in these troubled times.

What's an "assault weapon"? I've never seen one, but I hear they exist in the minds of hysteric gun grabbers.

"a common sense approach to gun control"

This phrase makes me see red every time the gun grabbers use it. What sense does it make to disarm those of us who follow the law when those who rob, kill and rape are ready to break every law?

My sense is the anti gun agenda is to make us too weak to resist an authoritarian socialist world state ruled by self styled elites.

None, but it does makes sense to the women and the girly-men who vote for the Strimlings and their laws. This is how California effectively banned firearms by 2003.

How much money has he taken from the Brady Boob? That sentence is right out of their propaganda flyers. Common sense, indeed. BS.

FYI, this issue is being addressed over on AMG:

http://www.asmainegoes.com/ubb-scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=030632

If you are in the WLOB listening area, please tune Kevin Crocker and the "Talkin' Maine" Show in Saturday Morning, 6-9AM.

Sen. Strimling, much to his credit, has agreed to come in to the studio and debate the issue.

It promises to be an interesting program!

Registration and taxation coming our way.

Baron Strimling is just an advance man for John the Bald, Duc de Maine.

You know, you can make that thing reeeel eeeevil looking plus it is handy, with a 30 round mag, nice stock with pistol grip, and accessories. If I knew what an assault rifle looked like, I bet I could make a mini-14 or mini-30 look even more scary.

What is scary though is those looney toons creeping into our State of Maine, and spreading their infections beyond the Portland area. They are worse than fire ants in the south.

he calls his bill a common sense approach

I can call a dog a cat, but that doesnt make it so.If it's a bill, and it's before the Maine house or senate and it has any chance of passing, then common sense is the one thing it won't have.

I think Maine needs to ban Ethan Strimling.
