ASHINGTON (AP) _ The Senate approved former New York City lawyer Paul Crotty Monday to become a federal judge Monday, voting 95-0 to place him on the bench in the district including Manhattan, the Bronx, and its northern suburbs.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., also spoke in favor of the nomination, urging unanimous approval for Crotty.

"I knew Paul in many different walks in life and thought it was a great idea," said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., on the Senate floor.

If Hitlery and Chucky are supporting Paul Crotty must mean he is RINO. Does anyone know his positions on the issues?

The Rats love to talks about how they approved over 200 over Bush's nominees to the courts, but I have a feeling all of those nominees were RINOS and the only 10 Conservatives that Bush had the gumption to nominate are the ones being held up.

He's pro-business, and socially indifferent (may be liberal, may be conservative, but really doesn't care).

I know a couple of people who are farmiliar with him.

He is not even w RINO. Crotty is (or at least used to be) a registered Democrat and he was proposed for a judgeship by Schumer as a result of a deal between the White House, Schumer and Gov. Pataki with regard to several district judgeships in New York State. This has been rather widely reported several months ago.

If you are talking about the whole of Bush presidency (incl. first term) than it's not that bad. The likes of McConnell, Roberts, Sutton (to name just a few out of my memory) are definitely brilliant jurists with unqestionably conservative credentials. All of them had rough rides during their confirmations but managed to get through. But Dems certainly try to defeat as many conservatives as possible.

As for Crotty I must say I don't understand why GOP decided to arrange his confirmation at this time, possibly (and hopefully) just days ahead of fillibuster showdown. Doing so they just handed Schumer additional means to stake his claims that Dems are "cooperative" and that they are confirming so many judges provided that they are "mainstream" (read: provided we nominate them).

P.S. Min you I'm not saying that Paul Crotty is all that bad. I know nothing about his judicial philosophy.
