I never said she was on a respirator. I said she could not eat and drink the normal way. Would you like to "live" like Terri Schiavo was? Put yourself in her shoes then try to decide.
We really don't know how she felt about it. There was nothing in writing, only what her husband told a judge.
Yes! I would like to go on living, even if I were as handicapped as Terri was. And as hard a Terri fought to hang on to her life, it should be clear to all that she also wanted to live. But her estranged husband wanted her dead.
Who would believe that in this country an estranged husband or wife could bring about the murder thought the courts of a person who was basically their ex?
Would you like to live the way the eskimos do - no, do we kill them too?
Frankly I would not like to live the way you do - so I guess I can kill you. After all, who would want to live your life?
So now, you have set up the plateau that if anyone judges that an ill one would not want to live that way (based on their 20-year-old opinion, their 35-year-old opinion), they have the just right to end that person's life - no matter if there is written direction as to what the ill one wants.
How do you prevent men from killing those they want to erase from this earth because of their estates, money, power, jealousy, greed, hate? All men have the right to judge the worth of the sick and take action if they want.
What a wonderful country. And, you and your family are no longer safe from the ghouls of our society.
If my continued existence was giving joy to my loved ones who in turn did what they could for me, why not? Of course, I'd hope that my loved ones would be able to turn on a TV news story saying that the jerk who tried to kill me was safely behind bars, but even without that if my parents and siblings were happy why would I want to deny them the pleasure of my company?
I love to sit in the sunlight, look around me, listen to music, etc. Terri apparently liked that too. What's wrong with that - that she wasn't earning money, perhaps, which is the only thing that seems to qualify us as decent citizens in the utilitarian handbook most Americans seem to be reading from nowadays.
She might well have been able to eat and drink the "normal way," but her husband didn't allow them to feed her that way. Be that as it may, many people - babies, temporarily handicapped people, old people - cannot eat in the "normal way." Does this mean we should off them?
Or is there a new pro-life belief--only for the unborn?
Regarding feeding tubes, my uncle "lived like she did" with a feeding tube for a couple of years, until he lost his life in a serious fall. Not being able to chomp down on a steak was something he regretted, but he loved life, and would never have wanted someone to deny him what life he had left.
IF she couldn't eat and drink the normal way, why did they have armed guards and police arresting kids attempting to bring her water??? OF course she could eat and drink...Nurses that cared for her testified to that in front of the murdering judge...She was on the feeding tube for convenience...That also was testified to...
You have the facts wrong...
So nobody on a feeding tube should go on living?
Would you like to "live" like Terri Schiavo was?
No. I wouldn't like to have Downs Syndrome, either -- let's start starving all of those people.
Again, it's not about you or me. It's not anyone else to decide for Terri. But yes, I have determined that if I am terminal I want respirators and heart machines removed, but feed me - please. When my body gives up, so will my desire to eat or drink.
There are a lot of people in this world who cannot eat in the 'normal way' - we certainly should not starve them to death. Terri was not dying of some incurable disease nor was she on a respirator or any other 'machine'. She merely could not eat on her own just as many disabled people cannot today. This case has many horrible aspects to it but the bottom line is that she had loving parents who wanted to care for her and as a healthy, but disabled woman she surely had the right to life and to be FED. It is disgusting when people try to say that since they wouldn't want to 'live like she did' without truly knowing how she felt that she should be denied the right to food and water. SICK - it is SICK and in fact it is NAZI'ish.... I just wonder how many have really studied the facts and the misinformation in this case as I have.... FOR YEARS
She swallowed her own saliva and she could have swallowed other things as well. It was so stated by several doctors. In fact, one nurse had even fed her jello which she loved. You are just so very ignorant. God gives life and ONLY HE has the right to take it.!! Since when has God ever needed man's help in matters of life and death? Never.
>>>Would you like to "live" like Terri Schiavo was? Put yourself in her shoes then try to decide.>>>
So that is what America is about now? The decision of who gets to live and who is forced to die is decided by what 'astounded's' idea of living is.
You are what is wrong with America today. IMO
