Algebra traces its beginning to mathematicians of early Islam. The name "Algebra" comes from the name of the treatise first written by Al-Khwarizmi, who is the founder of Algebra as we know it today, titled: Kitab al-mukhtasar fi Hisab Al-Jabr wa-al-Moghabalah meaning The book of summary concerning calculating by transposition and reduction; the word Al-jabr (which Algebra is derived from meaning "reunion", "connection" or "completion"). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algebra
