1000's of Children in Ho Chi Minh City with Bird Flu Symptoms

Hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City have been filled with thousands of children who have caught respiratory and digestive illnesses due to the hot weather.
Pediatric Hospital I reported that it had examined nearly 4,000 children patients a day with some 85 per cent of them suffering from respiratory problems, said a hospital doctor.
Meanwhile, more than 3,000 children were brought into Pediatric Hospital II on Monday. One-third of the children had respiratory problems and 300 others had digestive problems.
Besides, many children have been hospitalized for brain diseases caused by the entero virus.
The major reason behind the illnesses is that children are sleeping all night with fans on due to the hot weather in recent days.

Recombinomics Commentary: The deafening dearth of data in Vietnam may have ended.
The number of children alone would be cause for concern, but large numbers of patients with respiratory and digestive illness and "brain diseases". in
Vietnam ring alarm bells very loudly.

Serious H5N1 testing is indicated, although results from Quang Binh, Haiphong, and Quang Ninh have not been reported.

Bird flu monitoring in Vietnam is well beyond scandalous.

We are less than two years away from a massive pandemic, my guess is 40% of the worlds population is going to perish soon.

I pray you are wrong. Between this and Marburg... scary thought.

If worse came to worse, we could quarantine our nation. Still think a virus could travel trans-ocean w/o a human carrier?

That wouldn't surprise me one I-O-TA. I can't seem to wash my hands enough while I'm at school.

China started with its bird flu and it's drifted to one of its satellite nations. Now if China would divulge what biological weapon it was working on to originate the bird flu maybe an antidote could be developed.

I agree with you. I don't trust the PRC government either.

Good afternoon.
"That will ease the oil demand."

It'll make fixing Social Security irrelevant, too.

This could be the one, but if it's not, the Marsburg virus is out of control too, and there is no cure for it. A couple hundred people have already died from it and hundreds more are infected, with 8 of them being in Italy. That was during the time the huge crowds were in Italy for the Pope's funeral. Hopefully, no one from other countries were infected. It could be the worst disaster in history IF someone attending the funeral was infected and got on a plane filled with people heading home to other countries. It has up to a 20 day incubation period so we won't know for a while yet.

I pray that no one from the funeral was infected.

Huh? A mess, yes. A pandemic maybe. 40%, I doubt that.

Even as little as 1% would be horrible. That is 60 million people.

"My wife and I just took my MIL to visit some family for her birthday. They had all been sick with some sort of vicious sinus infection. One sister was still in the hospital. Did any of them suggest we wait a while to visit? Nope.

The attitude is, "Hey, I survived. You might as well suffer, too." They'll never grasp the concept until it is too late."

I hate people like that. It never occurs to them that not everyone has a healthy immune system.

Good afternoon.

The 1918 flu also killed people in remote villages in the Arctic that had had no contact with the outside world. It also circled the globe in a few months before burning out.

Here's a tip from a veteran germaphobe: Never ever touch your face when out and about. People have no idea how much they touch their eyes, nose, mouth.

Same here. I decided years ago that I would simply not touch my face ever, except at home after washing my hands well. Now it's second nature. Don't even have to think about it.

On top of that, besides the paper towels on door handles (and not just public lavs, but all doors) I also never touch a pen that is used by the public. I use my own pen, or if it's one of those set-ups for credit card that you have to sign with the attached stylus, then that also gets the kleenex/paper towel protection too.

Somebody mentioned Monk earlier -- he hasn't done anything I don't see myself doing! Well, maybe the boiling water on the toothbrush, I haven't gotten to that point.

" The health care system is a lot better but we will be filling holes. "

As a Registered Nurse you ought to be concerned there aren't enough nurses to handle patients we have now. And the call outs and failure to report to duty that would occur if an true epidemic or pandemic were to occur. Folks have no idea the TRUE state of there health care system. My wife is military 27 yrs. retired RN. I am 14 years an RN and we both still activity work in different cities. My, my, my the reality of a situation like this would overwhelm resources in 48 hrs. if not sooner. We don't have the supplies now to take care of patients and have to improvise all the time.

Prayers and tears I think will serve you better.
