RE: "Constitutional option."

Senator McCain appeared to say yesterday that he would vote to overturn a ruling from the Chair that the filibuster was out-of-order. If indeed he does, that would doom his 2008 presidential campaign, if in fact he intends to mount one. Senator McCain's office can be reached via 202-225-3121, as can all senators' offices.

McCain is real piece of Washington political work. He plays both sides of the aisle almost every day -- and he would dearly love to be President. But in my book, he is dogmeat if he in any way, panders to the politically-driven obstructionism of the left. What is McCain, other than a political chameleon, that changes color to any advantage??? Totally difficult to tell what he stands for -- if anything other than aquisition of power.

His "2008 Presidential campaign" is doomed by far more than this!

By his personality, for starters;
by his whiny voice,
by his voting record...

Byrd Precedent For The Birds

Republicans should give Byrd and his fellow Democrats a taste of that same simple majority medicine Byrd administered while his party controlled the Senate. But, instead of referring to the "nuclear option," Republicans ought to refer to the "Byrd precedent" as they move toward a simple majority vote on judicial nominees. And smile when they say it.

I like this guy's idea.......The Byrd Precedent.

What for? McVAIN only listens to McVain! No matter how upset we get with him, McVain doesn't give a wit! He knows he'll keep getting re-elected no matter what he does to the party! He could screw a donkey and he still would win!

Yep, the line rang and rang for me and then I was put on hold for a while, listening to some military march music, and then finally gave my opinion.  I said that if the Senator can not find a core, he might want to use the Constitution as a guide.  I then covered the well known territory that 2/3 majority circumstances are clearly spelled out and judicial nominations are not one of these circumstances.

"...He could screw a donkey and he still would win!"

That crap may work in Arizona and the beltway, but not in middle America.

Recently in the Arizona Republic a reporter by the name of Billy House (what adult still goes by Billy except maybe Jimmy)writes "A TV ad campaign aimed at saving the Senate filibuster rule is airing in Arizona ..with the flickering image of Sen. Jefferson Smith played by Jimmy Stewart in the classic 1939 film

Mr. smith goes To Washington. He continues " The goal of the Arizona ads funded by the liberal People for the American Way Foundation is to encourage Sen John McCain, R-Aiz., to fight to help save the rule, which allows for extended debate in the Senate to have the effect of preventing a vote." (notice he does not qualify his piece by mentioning that limit is on debate in the judiciary committee ONLY) Further on he writes, " ..Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist R-Tenn., has threatened to invoke the so called 'nuclear option' this month that would have the effect of undoing the 200-year-old Senate filibuster practice".

Still no mention that the change would only apply to the judiciary committee. Then he reports, "If Frist succeeds, the votes of just 50 senators and the tie-breaking vote of the Vice President would be enough to cut off debate and confirm any nominee to the federal courts or the Surpreme Court."

WHAT? The name of this guy's column is AZ IN D.C. and he does not know that the nuclear option only applies to the judiciary committee not the entire senate. Evidently McCain is listening to the Liberal People for the American Way.

Good point that really brings up a very major issue. Look at what Washington has to offer the people of this country -- and it just keeps getting worse.

That should be easy after taking on an "Elephant." After all,he "screws" up repeatedly and regularly--at will.

What's more,we never even get "kissed." LOL

McCain in 08? He won't get my (and a lot of other Vietnam Vet's) vote.

It's amazing McCain doesn't realize that any Presidential run in DOA if he opposes measures to get the Bush nominees approved to the judiciary. It would be more fitting if his career ended in a Republican primary in Arizona.

This is it. If McCain and certain Republicans can't do what the base wants, they must be targeted and rejected even more so than Democrats.
