WASHINGTON - A critical network of cameras and sensors installed for the U.S. Border Patrol along the Mexican and Canadian borders has been hobbled for years by defective, poorly installed equipment and by lax oversight by government officials who failed to properly supervise the project's contractor, according to government reports and public and industry officials.
The problems with the $239 million Integrated Surveillance Intelligence System, or ISIS, which officials call crucial to defending the country against terrorist infiltration, are under investigation by the inspector general of the General Services Administration.
That inquiry, into whether government officials allowed the contractor to cut corners on the project and receive huge overcharges during its eight-year lifetime, could lead to administrative or criminal charges, the officials said. Perhaps tens of millions of dollars were wasted, the GSA suggested.

God bless our politicians and our tax money.

The only thing that is defective is the prevailing policy and agenda of the administration and the Congress.
Hmmm, if the sensors are malfunctioning, let's go to area 51 and joy ride an alien ship.
man-o-man
Very good post.
So what's new?

Border Security Breakdown Captures Attention Of Congress
Chris Halsne,
KIRO 7 Eyewitness News Investigative Reporter
January 4, 2003
An exclusive KIRO Team 7 Investigation exposes a border security breakdown. You're paying millions more than you should for a high-tech security system along the Washington-British Columbia border that doesn't work very well.
snip
The system was suppose to be a $5 million pilot project, but it's already ballooned to $8 million, and counting.
snip
Our investigation discovered that the main contractor on the camera project is a company called International Microwave Corporation. The company's Vice President is the daughter of Texas Congressman Silvester Reyes.
snip
And just to rub salt in the wound:
IMC recently received a $200 million no-bid contract from the Department of Justice to install security systems along all US borders.
snip
Looks like the government subcontractor must've been using cheap, illegal immigrants to install that crap.
I wonder who they will blame this on? And my next question is, will Pres. Bush do anything about this?
In this day, and in that area, an alien ship is a van full of Turd World illegal immigrants.
Still wanna take a "Joy ride" with aliens? ;-)
Aren't these the "sensors" that the Border Patrol claims the Minutemen keep on tripping, causing them to have to respond to false alarms? Question is, are these sensors even working. One wonders.
Kind of expected it to read:
"unassembled high-tech gear was found lying in the desert ... next to a discarded prayer rug."
I'll bring the bag of quarters !
Whooo Hooo !
No defective equipment allowed ~ Bump!
Great pic Travis, do you mind if I use it also?
Keep posting it FRiend, (as well as the quote from the Constitution about defending us from invasion.)
